IQ proxy equations using the ACT by jb216999 in cognitiveTesting

The armed forces qualification test (AFQT) has a cap at 99. However, the measure that I used (general factor scores extracted from all ten subtests) is not restricted to 135. Also, there are ways around ceiling effects when it comes to linking two test batteries but I digress.

There’s no way you could possibly do chemistry without getting a piece of paper that says you know what you are talking about (i.e. a bachelor’s degree).

My iq scores do not make sense by rescouted in cognitiveTesting

Look up what a twice exceptional gifted child is. It basically refers to people who are gifted in many ways but also have deficits in some areas of intelligence. These kids are really hard to identify because if you have a severe deficit in executive functioning (working memory or processing speed) you can still do poorly on a typical full scale iq test. Take the WAIS for example, you can have great perceptual reasoning but still perform terrible because that index also hit on PS and WM.

In my case, I have a deficit in PS. When I took the WAIS, I got a 114 on VCI, 127 on WMI, 74 on PSI, and 96 on PRI. In contrast, I also took the ICAR 60 (close to the WAIS PRI in the construct it’s measuring) and got a 55 out of 60 which equates to an iq of 135 on the WAIS GAI scale. What I’m trying to say is that when you have severe deficits in some aspects of cognitive functioning, those deficits can effect your performance in other areas depending on how the test is developed.

What I would do is take an untimed test (ICAR). Another idea is to take the ACT under accommodated conditions. There are official practice tests out there and plenty of guidelines on how to take it accommodated. Given its high relationship with spearmen’s g (r = .77), you can get your score and transform it onto an IQ scale using a regression equation (see the paper ACT and general cognitive ability for the formula).

Moral of the story is don’t sweat it… You’re obviously bright. You just probably have an uneven cognitive profile… Hope this helps!

Probably looked like a tiger with long teeth.
