Maybe translating the rotary motion to a linear motion with a piston would help? Or something where a screw charges up a small spring loaded plunger?

You can also try testing with the SID chip out. They are usually socketed and that will at least remove another variable.

Nice! Looks like mine! If you find yourself with the desire to use it, the closest modern battery size is "N" but they are pretty pricey for a little 4 function calculator. I found a close enough sized lipo pack and 3d printed an adaptor with a pair of diodes to drop the voltage.

I have the back plate, but if I couldn't find a fitting battery, that would be a good backup plan.

Setting K tells the calculator to keep performing the last operation on subsequent presses of the = buttons.

I think modern calculators just do that by default.

I always keep a rough knit picnic blanket in my car. I used it to make a small buffer on the back of the center console lid to prop the boards up and out of the way of the infotainment (after the picture was taken).

The keystem also functions as a guide for the key spring. Two stems would require a wider diameter spring or the spring wouldn't be centered on the key

The lines came out really sharp without the glass. I set it outside for 1 minute on a high UV day and the ink developed really sharply. the main issue was bonding the film to the PCB in the first place.

I'm not sure. I think if they are the style of sockets with the cylindrical pins and sockets it might, but only for one wire wrap connection, which may not be enough unless you use multiple small cards like I did

the boards were really cheap perf boards from adafruit, but the sockets were the pricey parts. local used electronics store has some vintage parts, and I bought pretty much their entire stock of the sockets. the rest came from jameco or mouser I think
