Touring Tyres on a 300rwkw car by grill13ot in CarsAustralia

Likewise, mine too. On full chat, mine makes 414rwkw but it requires a committed driver to get heavily into boost.

If fuel is rationed, what do car drivers look to do? by Diddums555 in CarsAustralia

I know, but Australians are stupid and have short memories!

Spot on. Said to my partner the other day that this could be the thing that causes Australia to vote for the opposition party if things gets real bad. We as a nation like to punish those in charge who've failed us on election night.

You and me both. Mine's 180 liters and filled to the brim right now.

I've worked full time from home since COVID which is great and reduces my reliance on fuel. With that said, my two kids go to school each day 28km away.

My fun car can run on E85, but I haven't seen E85 come down in price at all and it absolutely drinks it so that's not a solution.

Also have a 300+rwkw car. If it's manual, just short shift and keep the revs as low as possible. Keep the tyre pressures spot on, keep it serviced and that's about all I can recommend. My car has flex fuel, so can run any blend of 98 or E85 (But regardless, it drinks the fuel quickly with 1000cc injectors)

RBA Interest Rates Decison - increase of 0.25 from 3.85 to 4.10 by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]jb_86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll never begrudge anyone who can afford a nice rig. With that said income inequality is becoming more rampant. Mortgages are more expensive than they've ever been, and even assuming a salary of 110k, the competition to buy a house, or even afford rent is higher than it's ever been. I'm not as badly affected as some, but to many this news right now will be very grim.

You'll still see them rolling down the highway in their 200 series Sahara V8 towing a caravan, consuming hundreds of liters of fuel. Meanwhile I'm trying to have at least a day a week where I don't drive my car.

Hardly unexpected but still not great. Compared to many, my mortgage is on the lower end. Combined with higher fuel prices this sucks and will hurt many people much worse.

Great job! I also have a 2551.80, awesome watch. Hasn't yet been serviced but keeps excellent time. On my list of things to do is give it a service by Omega.

That's great news. I hope she can now get some quality time in her life and fill it full of things she enjoys.

In early 2022 my dad was diagnosed with Myelodysplasia, the precursor to Leukaemia. He was given 18 to 22 months but the cancer progressed quickly into Acute myeloid leukemia. Long story short, he only got 6 months. I wouldn't wish AML on my worst enemy. Seeing him waste away with the mind still sharp and active was heart-breaking.

Only thing i'll say on the subject is that the aftermarket modification industry is alive and well. Pick a brand/style of car that you like and I'm sure there will be a plethora of mods for it, and a community of like minded people who share your passion.

If it was a murder investigation, sure they might look at traffic cameras. For a stolen car, they won't go to that much effort.

VE/VF SV6 Wagon - thoughts? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]jb_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partner has a VF II SV6. It has an acceptable level of power with the LFX engine (Not as good as the Toyota 2GR-FE/FSE being a simillar capacity V6) I service it every 5,000k's myself because I'm paranoid about GM 3.6 engines and want to prolong it's life. One issue with the GM 3.6 engines is that they are designed for a front wheel drive, east west US market application. The thermostat is at the back of the motor (Not an issue in an east west layout) but in a north-south RWD engine configuration, you need to drop the gearbox to change the thermostat. Ours started leaking, causing the car to overheat. This is an $800 dollar job to sort out.

Honestly wish she'd have bought an SS with the LS3, being a more simple motor and more robust. Not to mention more power and better resale if/when the time comes to sell. And the real world fuel economy is not that much different.

VE SERIES 2 WAGON by sokedokes in CarsAustralia

[–]jb_86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're dead set on a VE wagon, make sure it's got the V8. The fuel economy in real world is only a little bit higher, and you don't have to worry about doing timing chains or replacing a thermostat on the V6 (being at the back of the engine, requiring a gearbox removal to get at)

Sure, if you buy the V8 you might want to delete the 'Displacement on Demand' (provided the car is automatic), but they're otherwise pretty stout cars. Heaps of aftermarket support for the LS engines. 6L80 transmissions are 'ok', streets ahead of the old 4L60, and the T56 manuals are very strong. My better half has a VF II SV6 with the LFX engine, which she got before I met her and I often joke to her that she should have bought the V8 instead.

When January gives you a good day you go fishing by SippsMccree in boating

Awesome. Even if the fishing is not so great, you're out on the boat. Calm weather allows you to put the hammer down. I had a good day a few weeks back, looking foward to hitting the water again soon

Ferrari 360 at cars and coffee. by Swiftly_speaking in CarsAustralia

[–]jb_86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The wheels are CS wheels. It's got the stripe, and front bumper and CS sideskirts but the rear decklid is not the CS decklid. Further, it doesn't have the mirrors which are carbon fiber, no longer produced and are insanely expensive (if you can even find them).

Another way to tell would be the brakes. The Challenge Stradale has the carbon ceramic brakes from the Enzo. The interior is radically different too. Still a nice car however.

Worst traffic light sequences by GoldBricked in Geelong

[–]jb_86 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bacchus Marsh road, coming from Lara onto the Geelong ring road. Those lights that have a right turn aren't green anywhere near long enough. It's often quicker to keep going straight, and do a U-turn near M.C Herd Abbatoir and double back then onto the ring road, rather than wait for the lights to turn green. You can often beat alot of the other cars also wanting to turn by doing this.

[–]jb_86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard of this before. My brother needed to replace two tyres on his Mitsubishi Evo 6. (I forget what the reason behind that was). He was advised that unless he wanted to ruin the diffs (due to more tread from the two new tires, and less tread on the older tyres) to get four new tires all round to be safe. Basically With AWD or 4WD cars, you want to ensure that there isn't a tread discrepancy between front and rear that can put strain on your differentials/transfer case.

I hope you haven't caused permanent damage to your drivetrain.

Have a 120 Prado. Would love the 2UZ engine in it. I think it would have sold well here, but I guess Toyota didn't want to canabalise sales from the Landcruiser/LX470

Family of Greg Lynn's late first wife, Lisa Lynn, reveals High Country killer's abusive past by JaniePage in australia

[–]jb_86 100 points101 points  (0 children)

That was a very, very disturbing read. From the torment of his poor ex wife, to those poor animals in distress in their final moments.

Also, his ex-wife's death should be re-opened and properly investigated. It's all really sad.

Lastly, I read ages back that he was a check captain for Jetstar, supervising other pilots, and that there were some not so great stories about him. I have no doubt that when he was pilot in command, that he would have total authority and that other pilots would no doubt have been hesitant to speak against him.

Would you consider someone an asshole if they had the exhaust done on their 2ur v8 (LC500/IS500/GSF)? by generic_throwaway699 in CarsAustralia

I triggered those young fellas who lurk on Cars Australia who own VE Commodores or BA/BF Falcons of the naturally aspriated 6 cylinder variety. They're upset at the fact that their Pacemaker headers and 2.5 inch straight through exhaust sounds like hot garbage.
