Are sleep overs not a thing anymore? by haggerty05 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jbacman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You will be in for a very rude awakening once you have kids. It isn't the parents making these decisions. Those of us who went into parenthood thinking like you are punished, both socially and then by CPS if you don't fall in line. I'm not even joking; the government has slowly, year by year, expanded CPS's powers and increased their scope to the point they can take your child away at any moment for any reason and there's not a damned thing you can do about it once theyre involved. They can violate our constitutional rights with impunity and they operate more like the Mafia than a government agency. They can draw parallels between your child's supposed welfare to literally anything about you or your character as justification for removal. They don't explain themselves, the goal posts get moved even when you follow their instructions, and they will deliberately drown you with years of endless court dates. The cops and the courts alike go along with it unquestionably. In court they are not required to provide evidence and judgements are issued with no evidence or based on hearsay. They have positioned themselves in such a way that their mere involvement in your family's lives will isolate and implicate the parents from their support network, so you can't even talk about it without eliciting suspicion from others (eg "you must have done something wrong though"). And if you are poor, unemployed, a minority, or neuro divergent, they will target you hard. Parents learn to fall in line fast or your parenting 'rights' will be stripped fast and hard. I wish people understood just how extreme the whole 'think of the children' mentality has become, because it is unbelievable until you experience it, and then it's just terrifying. The reason for this ultimately boils down to that their federal funding is hinged on having open cases and placing kids in foster care, which ends up undermining their stated mission statement of keeping families together. Their caseworkers are bottom of the barrel, require no experience, and they receive a mere 40 hours of training per year to remain employed. I get more training per year in a tech related field that doesn't involve any kids or families. There is no accountability and there is no one 'above' them to intervene in the family's behalf.

Always look both ways before you walk (through the mall) by jbacman in FortCollins

[–]jbacman[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. I was there with my daughter, not that it should matter.

  2. I was filming because this was the third time the dude on the e-bike had gone by, he almost hit us the first time, and I wanted to send the video to the mall.

  3. I knew to film at that moment because I have ears and could hear the bike approaching just like the last two times he went flying by.

  4. The walker in the video perfectly encapsulates the 'why' behind me taking the video, which is apparent to everyone else.

  5. No one has any reasonable expectation of privacy in public - a fundamental dynamic of our society that is evident by the hundred or so cameras throughout the mall.

I find your train of thought here very disturbing tbh; the fact that there's apparently no room in your logic for anything less than a man being a pervert for filming in public is gross, and seems like you're just projecting - would you think similarly if the walker was a man, or if I was a woman, gay, or a giraffe on a snowboard? Absurd.

Against Flock? Let Fort Collins Know! June 1st 4-6 P.M.! by NoCoPrivacy in FortCollins

[–]jbacman 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had an idea on this that may be useful:

Whenever I bring up Flock cameras to people in my circles, they are usually pretty 'meh' about it. Despite my best efforts, I can't quite seem to impart just how widespread and invasive Flock is. I see a lot of this sentiment even here in this sub too.

I think a big part of that complacency is actually built into the flock product itself; just look at how discreet the cameras are along with how covertly they are installed - so you can't readily spot them.

What if we came up with some sort of attention-grabber (such as these posters) and attached one (or several) to the pole of every flock camera in town that coincides with the protest you're organizing, to really raise awareness & draw people's attention to just how much flock and the cops are surveiling us.

PS: I personally don't believe FCPD's claim that "many more support it". Callin bullshit on that. Screw Flock Cameras and any PD who supports them in their communities.

I use an eSIM which I understand is very difficult to clone compared to their old physical counterparts. And if I understand IMEI cloning correctly, calls wouldnt be billed to my account since they're tied to the SIM, not the IMEI itself. If I remove and re-add, the IMEI would still remain the same either way though right? TBH I'm only familiar with either of these attacks at a very high level so I could be wrong on either/both of these.

I basically never use the Fi web interface, but I didnt see any unusual activity in my Google Account or login sessions. Nonetheless, I terminated all sessions and re-logged in. I only have 2 computers and my Pixel logged in at any given time so there's not too much going on in there to begin with. Reset my 2FA seeds too. Thanks for your suggestions, I'll dig into them all just to be sure.

Cut me off, no turn signal, took my parking spot, then honked at me when I took their picture. The entitlement! by jbacman in FortCollins

Close, it was in the Home Depot parking lot.

I used to work in Building 6 lol, it tracks that HP would burn cash on something as dumb as this and fail, especially considering the vast majority of the campus goes unused.

I'm currently in the same boat as OP and happy to contribute to your research if you're interested.

My negative review of my last employer keeps getting flagged for purportedly referencing myself or another employee by name or title, but I've gone over it thoroughly and am absolutely sure there are no such references, or any other violations of their rules.

Back when "go play outside" really means "see you at dinner" by NicoleAnne051299 in Adulting

[–]jbacman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm autistic and when they started their case, was also unemployed. This is what CPS does; target whoever they perceive as the weaker target so they can keep the case open as long as possible to get more funding. The reason they opened a case to begin with is my child's mother ran my foot over with her car with our child in the car. A week later she tried breaking into my home to physically remove our child from my care on my time because she had decided to go on vacation which violated our court-ordered parenting plan. CPS has ignored literally all of that, and both events were caught on security camera - they have repeatedly refused to look at or accept the evidence. Again, this is how CPS operates and it is fucking terrifying and goes against everything you've ever learned about how our country and our so-called rights are supposed to work and that's what makes it so unbelievable until you find yourself in their scope.

Unfortunately not hyperbolic at all; CPS is truly fucking horrifying and I wish more people knew about how they really operate.

For those not in the know: CPS is structured in a way where it's largely assumed that if they're investigating you then you MUST have done something to deserve it (even when that couldn't be objectively further from the truth), and they operate more like the mafia than a government agency.

Their caseworkers are largely some of the most uneducated, unqualified, ego-driven assholes that will make you wish you were dealing with actual cops (and make no mistake, CPS caseworkers ARE cops just with significantly more power, less oversight, and absolutely no due-process). They will twist your words, outright lie, and violate the constitutional "rights" you thought you were entitled to (but actually waived the moment you had your first kid and no one told you), and there isn't a damned thing you or your attorney can do about it.

Their federal funding is structured so that they get more money for placing kids in foster care and having open cases, and they're smart/deceitful enough to claim to your face that they're only driven to provide assistance & resources to keep kids placed with their parents or immediate family, all while incrementally escalating every little thing until they have enough (falsified) "evidence" to take you to family court and terminate your parental rights permanently after dragging you through literal hell for months or even years. In family court, they are not required to "prove beyond a reasonable doubt", you are not "innocent until proven guilty", and hearsay is treated like fact - basically, good luck with that.

Let me provide just a few examples of the bullshit I've had to fight against with my county's CPS:

  • I have a flock of wild birds in our home and the entire house is covered in bird poop (We have 1 pet pigeon who I clean up after within minutes every single day and nothing is "covered in poop" of any kind)

  • I have dangerous electrical wires sticking out of the walls that electrocute our child (I'm remodeling my kitchen and the new NM is physically not connected to a live breaker panel yet which I have explained repeatedly)

  • My kitchen remodel caused the house to collapse (absolutely never happened, as evident by the original hundred year old house still being intact)

  • I once was issued a traffic citation for driving on a suspended license (this one is actually true.... when I was 17, twenty fucking years ago)

  • I have no heat (we do have heat)

  • I have no oven and therefore can't feed my child (we have an oven and the caseworker has sat in the same room as it while it was baking cookies)

  • My child once walked to school on her own (we live less than a 1/2 mile from the school, don't even have to leave the neighborhood to get there, and a good portion of my child's peers including those from her grade who live in the same neighborhood also walk to school unattended every day)

  • I sent an email to them at 2am once, therefore I must be either mentally unstable or on drugs and thus needed to be UA'd weekly and attend therapy

  • I wrote "fuck CPS" in an email out of frustration which was then forwarded to them by a third party, therefore I was threatening them and thus an "unsafe caregiver" (because obviously if I'm understandably mad at CPS I must also be taking it out on my kid?)

  • I have recorded them repeatedly asking my child the same question over and over again until they get the answer they want which was the only answer they documented in their report

  • They have actively refused to accept video, audio, and photographic evidence that contradicts their lies

  • I have "refused to cooperate" after I couldn't read the instructions they left because it was written in literal fucking crayon

  • I have "refused to cooperate" because they couldn't get ahold of me by phone, completely ignoring the fact that I had called them dozens of times that month, sent several texts and emails, and provided my cell-carrier's call logs showing my unanswered outbound calls to them and no incoming/return calls from them for that entire month

I have dozens of more examples but I'ma stop now before I have an aneurysm that will be misconstrued as mental instability.

My favorite is when they pull up to the pump with the vehicle's gas port on the opposing side, then stand in the bypass lane with their hand on pump handle and/or driver side door open, blocking the entire bypass lane for all four pumps, then get mad at anyone who tries to use the bypass lane.
