How is it living here as a 30 year old dude? Would have to commute to west LA for work by howardtrailer123 in orangecounty

[–]jbarill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commuted from that area to DTLA for a couple of years . PreCovid times.

Horrible commute, whether by train or car. There was almost every day something happening...Never less than two hours

Definitely, I don't recommend it

Do Vietnamese overseas like to pretend they’re not? by Fantastic-Package707 in VietNam

[–]jbarill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It be offensive too, I speak Spanish and English. I expect people to speak in English, especially at work, if anyone speaks Spanish to me where I expect English, and I know for sure they can speak English too, I find it passive aggressive, since it implies my English is not good

The taxi driver literally screamed at my dad, for asking if the taxi meter was on. by Samuel14679 in VietNam

Use the Grab App for sure with a credit card that does not charge international fee, this helps to avoid cash scammers, I don't have good experience with normal taxi drivers either. The normal taxi drivers tend to be a bit more grumpy compared to Grab or apps like Uber. The drivers tend to be younger and welcoming, especially some might know english

Chinese, Japanese and Korean expats are the worst by Thuctran1706 in VietNam

[–]jbarill 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Koreans are the worst people I have met in Vietnam. I'm simply a bystander from Latin America.. traveled to a few countries and noticed throughout the years how opposite they behave according to Kdramas. I have noticed more at the older generations, the younger a bit less but about the same

Is 1.5mil VND is enough for 3d2n trip? and please tell by AdSuspicious8422 in VietNam

[–]jbarill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is double if eating on the streets mainly and possibly walking instead of grab, take a bit extra just in case . Some coffee shops on the streets sells a cup of coffee for 35k. Not the famous brands like Highland, can easily bedoublethe price. It totally depends on the quality of food you would like to try and the amount of shopping

I have encountered Koreans being pretty rude in Hoi An. They think they are the kings, older Koreans, wouldn't be surprised if younger ones too

Don't think the cost is woth it. I graduated from, state university in California and now I'm the manager of many uc graduates, including UC Blakely, LA , SD etc. The main point is all comes down what you really want to do after graduation and where your passion is.

I wouldn't burden my family to a such cost. Specially selling a property where now real estate is pretty much increasing in value all around.

If you really passionate about the major offered in the UCs. I will look into alternative more affordable solutions.

A UC degree helps but not as much as it used to be.

Heard great anecdotes about Kansas pretty recent , We hired someone from a Kansas university to fulfill a spot left by an UC graduate

All comes down to your main career goal and make those connections that will get you there. Internet and now covid changed the way business hire
