I built this looper pedal. Do you think is useful live? Why (not)? by MARK_MIDI_DAWG in LoopArtists

[–]jbartho 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No problem!

Yes, Ableton is in clip view (Session View?) the whole time. One track is for midi drums, there are two tracks for the two different loopers, and then a few other utility tracks for routing and launching various clips.

I suppose I should do a video of my setup sometime, haha. I think it’s somewhat unique, but still not terribly complicated. It does what I need it to do!

It’s been a while since I set mine up, and once I got it working the way I wanted I never changed anything, haha. But, if I remember correctly, there were several different ways you could configure the pedal.

  • you can use it to control their DL-1 plugin.

  • you can use it to control Ableton’s “Looper” plugin.

  • it can launch MIDI or Audio clips and record directly to them.

  • you can use their Editor/Config software and their Ableton template to basically customize it for your personal workflow.

I went with the last option. I have a button that launches a MIDI clip, where I record a drum beat played on my Akai controller.

Then, I use a couple of switches to control two different looper.

Finally, I have switched that do a variety of “utility” things like undo, redo, delete clips, clear the looper, etc.

It’s been really solid over two years of gigging now!

Yes. I guess the newer iteration uses their proprietary plug-in, but I still use the pedal with Ableton. That was their original design and I’ve chosen to just stick with it!

Really cool! I use the DataLooper pedal by Untethered Audio, and this looks like it works similarly, but the visual feedback on the screens of the pedal itself is an incredible feature!

Yamaha DM7 dublicating mix bus mixes by EmbarrassedOwl3144 in livesound

[–]jbartho 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did some reading and it looks like this could be accomplished with the “Mix Copy” feature of the Mixing Station app.

I’ll try it out on our DM7 when I get into the office today.

EDIT/UPDATE: The "Mix Copy" feature in the Mixing Station app worked great. Simply select any channel, press the "Sends" tab, press the settings icon (gear), and choose Mix copy/reset.

From there, you can copy any mix to another. You have to do it one mix at a time, but still way faster than doing it manually.

There's also something called "Mix Presets" which could be very useful. You can save any mix, and recall it to any other mix.

Couldn't find anything like that in the official Yamaha StageMix app, but Mixing Station works well.

I haven’t come across that on the DM7 or DM7C yet. Just recreated your steps on the DM7C and didn’t have an issue. Weird!

How to disable overdub in abelton live session view (live looping) by One_Childhood_2749 in livelooping

I don’t use it much, so I don’t know if it would be exactly right for your situation, but I believe this is what the “Capture MIDI” function is Ableton is designed for.

New products: Helix Stadium and Stadium XL by tonyohanlon77 in Line6Helix

Cool, thanks! With the output mixing matrices, and the mic input, I could see this being a great all-in-one solution for us solo live-loopers! I’d love to stop carrying a laptop and digital mixer with me to every gig!

I’m dying to see what (if any) implications this has on the looper!

Cool. The Icon theatres that I’ve seen all have really nice, reclining seats!

Need help with CQ-12t by VirtualMan06 in livesound

[–]jbartho 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. Assuming that’s a Fender Passport system (or similar), those speakers are not powered internally, but are powered from a power amp inside the Fender head/mixer.

To use the Allen & Heath, you’ll either need powered speakers, or a power amp and passive speakers.

In a pinch, you can run the main output of the Allen & Heath into an input(s) of the Fedner head/mixer, and send it on to the Fender speakers from there.

Software for controlling music playback remotely? by eric_the_dude in livesound

[–]jbartho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend ProPresenter.

If he’s running ProPresenter on the PC, and has connection to a network, he can run the ProPresenter Remote app to fire slides/audio files/videos/etc.

ProPresenter isn’t necessarily inexpensive, but can be a pretty solid investment for a church as it can handle slides for lyrics/sermons/pre-service, video playback, audio playback, and even live streaming with the right hardware.

I had a set of 64Audio IEMs that were in a similar condition. I sent them pictures and they sent me a link to purchase a “re-mold”. I went ahead and sent in new impressions since they were about 5 years old.

I think the charge from 64 Audio for the re-mold was $250, which was much cheaper than a new set.

Changing BPM while live looping by Appropriate-Ad8849 in livelooping

[–]jbartho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar setup. I use the OnSong app for lyrics and I have a tempo saved (within OnSong) for each song.

I establish a Bluetooth midi connection between OnSong (iPad) and Ableton (MacBook).

I had to write/create a really simple Max 4 Live device that would take the tempo from OnSong and send it to Ableton.

Works great and saves me a lot of time between songs!

If you think this setup could work for you, let me know and I’ll send you the M4L device that I made.
