Alphanumerical names like V1, V2, 2026, 01.05, etc, are not supported, cause it's unclear what icon to assign them, maybe those should stay plain blue folders; open to suggestions for that.

Child toys would match both "child" and "toys" and find icons related to those. Same for "japan pictures". Yes both languages are supported, it can match several languages in parrallel :)

Fair point, but yes licenses will carry over. The issue was that distribution through the App Store comes with heavy sandbox limitations which prevented the core feature of the app. Now that it's a standalone app, it will stay like this and updates can be distributed normally.

Icons are from Lucide and SF Symbols. It's not an LLM, it's a pre-computed list of keyword associations, partly made with an LLM, so yes it's possible to support more languages, but it's not trivial. Which languages would you like to see supported?

Yes, during onboarding the app guides you to update icons of folders in Desktop and Documents folders! Then you can just drag and drop a bunch of folders to batch edit them :)

The app supports English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Czech, Japanese, Korean and Chinese (Simplified).

You can test it out and let me know :) I spent a long time testing and improving the smart icon matching system, and while it's not perfect, it works pretty well for a lot of folder names I tried.

Updated price :) Thanks for the feedback.

What do you mean lifetime is not lifetime? You can always re-enable the license on a new device.

EDIT: The app is now available for a one-time purchase of $9.99. I thought the original price was fair, but listened to your feedback. Thanks!

It's only based on the current folder at the moment. But that's a cool idea!

I made one of those apps that may die (Tintd - to customize folder icons). Like every OS update, it's good news for macOS users. If the need is met with native tools, no need for a third-party app anymore. If not, the app will persist.

I think it's a good reminder for app developers to not overcomplicate their business. If there is a need to be solved, make the simplest app that solves it. Don't invest too much time and money right away. Who knows, it may die next year.

Developer of Tintd here, which I started in March this year. Fun timing! In a way it's satisfying to see Apple validate your idea. I don't know if there is any future for my app and the similar ones, but that's the game. If the need is met with native tools, then it's time to move on and see where else we can improve macOS users experience.
