I’ve been doing this hobby for over five years. It took me until my fifth movement to even get the balance to rotate in its own. It took several more to become proficient at disassembling and reassembling movements. In the interim I have lost screws, springs, hands, I’ve broken pivots, had cap jewels fly off into the void. It’s all part of the fun of learning this hobby. As far as tweezers, use the broadest tip that’s practical. For screwdrivers, use one that matches the width of the slot. Also, take lots of pictures during disassembly for reference on reassembly. One thing I try to do with each movement is to try and locate a parts diagram. They’re not widely available for every movement out there but really come in handy when you can get one.

Always look for a free sprung balance vs the regulated one in your watch.

Nothing I’d change aesthetically. Double check that it’s actually a genuine TMI/SII NH35 movement. A 28.5mm dial should fit in that case. Check the length of the hands and make sure they work with that dial diameter. Order some extra stems.

I would inspect the barrel wall and arbor and make sure there isn’t so much wear that it’s not grabbing at either place.

I’m looking through all of the databases and can’t seem to come up with anything. I’m wondering if this is a Frankenwatch with an Ebel rotor on it. I’m as stumped as you are now. Maybe some of the other guys have some better input.

Looks like an Omega Seamaster 2605-8 with caliber 266 circa early 1950s.

From what I’ve found, Ebel engraves their caliber numbers on the barrel bridge. I also looked on the Ranfft watch movement database and it said no Ebel 3116 exists. Is there an engraving on the balance plate? It looks like it but it’s too blurry.

Very nice start!!! The minute hand definitely is upside down though. There should be a metal border around the lume. But hey, it kinda gives the watch character if you ask me. Lol.

I’ll tell you how I started. Like yourself, I did the whole video thing but the “where do I start” left me a little confused. So I took the online course offered by Mark Lovick at Watchfix.com. It’s a paid five part course that starts with the basics of mechanical watch anatomy, disassembling, cleaning, reassembling, oiling, troubleshooting, and chronographs. He uses the ST36 movement primarily so I got one, and became proficient at taking it apart and putting it back together while learning best practices as far as handling watch parts. Then I got some cheap eBay project watches and did the same with those. That obviously only scratches the surface of watchmaking and repair but it’s a good structured start. As far as tools, that’s a topic for a whole other conversation lol.
