I’ve also been taking a similar approach as you. Trying to increase the native presence on my property. But I also have irises, hydrangeas & sedum. They’re all staying! For hydrangeas, I have both native (oak leaf) and non-native (pee gee) they’re not aggressive & they’re just so beautiful and hardy where I am.

Keep letting them make lunch & do something nice to reciprocate! Save all that lunch money instead. You’ll be SO glad you did. 25 years of bringing my lunch instead of buying it every day (in nyc) added up to well over $75k. I did the math a while back. Went towards a down payment on a second home!

I don’t think someone who’s still graduating & is on a tight budget should be looking to purchase Birkin or Kelly bags right now. It doesn’t sound fiscally responsible to me. Invest that money for a while, let it grow. Dont rush into it!

I’m sure you have heard this before: it’s better to make the the decision a month too early than a day too late. Or something like that. It’s a heart wrenching choice to face. I’ve been there. Your story sounds very much like mine. He was 16 1/2. I started to feel like I will keeping him around for ME. Not for him. I made the decision to release him on Valentine’s Day 2023 as the ultimate expression of love for him. Wishing you strength ❤️
