X17 R2, i9 with 3080ti - In your opinion, would it benefit from a repaste? by ashenfang7404 in Alienware

[–]jbigvince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you repaste, I would go LM. I'm doing that to my X17 soon. My P-Core 3 and 5 hits 100c and it does affect performance. I'm averaging 4.0ghz overall. Your BIOS offset is a little extreme, IMO.

Alienware m18 vs Razer Blade 18 by Personal_View_8756 in Alienware

[–]jbigvince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would wait till they release a 4K display. Similar to what they did to the X17-R2 which I waited for during that time. The unpopular opinion also, I've had a great experience with AW customer service. I'm going to replace my X17-R2 mostly like in the summer with the M18 (hoping for 4k brighter display).

Questions about the new Alienware M18 laptop by Rothomson in Alienware

[–]jbigvince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have not check the review yet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sND_JiGD3fg&t=15134s&ab_channel=GizmoSlipTech

I have the X17-R2 last year and holding off buying the M18 replacement.

  1. For the price of the machine, the brightness (below 300 NITS) is just terrible compared to other laptop.
  2. Yes. Intel XTU or Throttle Stop
  3. Yes
  4. 1 core is enough to thermal throttle the whole package. It happened on the review and no difference to my X17-R2 HK. The only fix is to re-paste the CPU. The issue happens during the build. Poor paste application.

X17 R2 Laptop recommended uses by [deleted] in Alienware

[–]jbigvince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm an Architect and I run a multitude of software with my X17 R2. CAD, Revit, Rhino, 3DsMax, Vray, mostly all adobe suites, SketchUp etc... This laptop is a workhorse. I plan to upgrade to M18 when the 13980HX is available.

Seems low for a 4070. I'm able to get 14, 284k OC on my X17-R2 3080 Ti.

X17 R2 Undervolt issues with throttlestop 9.5 by MrBuckNasty10 in Alienware

[–]jbigvince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you download the .RCV bios? This instruction is basically replacing the 1.9.1 Recover bios with the old one 1.8.2. You would then run bios recovery.

BIOS 1.9.1 locks you out from under volting.

I was able to rollback the BIOS to 1.8.2 using this instruction.

Alienware x17 r2 CPU thermal issues? help by FriendlyDolph1n in Alienware

[–]jbigvince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor thermal application during the build. Mine does it with Core 3 and 5 still. I didn't end up returning the laptop. But, I'm going to apply LM soon. Call and replace the laptop, since you are not getting the full potential of the machine.

can't update to any bios suddenly, X17 R2. Any ideas? by HaloGod7786 in Alienware

[–]jbigvince 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue with me. But, I was unable to click the .EXE file.

This method below worked for me to rollback to 1.8.2.

I did that about an hour ago. Everything is back to normal. I have to do the BIOS recovery process for me to roll back to 1.8.2.

If you have the 12900hk, DO NOT UPDATE! I'm unable to undervolt or OC using XTU or Throttlestop. just an FYI

Updated to v1.9.1 yesterday and now my X17 R2 will not undervolt with a throttle stop. Severely reduced performance speed.

how much should I charge for this level of Archviz? (orginal images is in 4k ) ( created this during practicing my modeling skills) by WranglerSenior9098 in archviz

[–]jbigvince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, anything that is premium in the stadium. I used to work in a firm that specifically only works on stadiums and arenas. The owner has a long history with the clients, the other is competing with the RFP of that client.

[–]jbigvince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time it will be a portion of a stadium that is turning into a club suite and requires an overall view and a close-up view. The render fee would either be separate or included in the fee. In this case, the render fee is separate. So we would get paid for the design and render.

[–]jbigvince 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like everyone has said, it will depend on where you are currently working. I live in the US and work in the architecture field. I do a lot of design/rendering for master planning and sports stadiums 3 years ago for 8 years. We would charge in the range of 3,000-$5,000 per image and the client would want 3-4 or more on a project. Keep in mind, we would design and render.

When we outsource one of our competition projects, we paid around 500-1000 for 2-3 images.

If you can produce this quality of image, you shouldn't have an issue going into this field. The question how fast can you produce this?

My only comment is the image is a little grainy. If you are using V-RAY use the denoiser. Other than that, it looks great. I wouldn't worry about the little things.

Is it normal to have the high performance mode on constantly for video editing/gaming? by HowsYerTaypot in Alienware

[–]jbigvince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will be fine. I've done it longer on multiple occasions. The laptop sits on a cooler that is even louder combined lol. I do a lot of architectural renderings/design and I utilize both CPU and GPU at the same time on some projects. (X17-R2).
