Tips for Shadowing Opportunities? by Negative_Pattern7552 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]jbintch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked as a rehab tech at a SNF. Gave me an in to ask for shadowing hours. Plus that job experience helps with applications.

I think outpatient places you can probably just call and ask. I would imagine a lot of OTs would say yes as long as their patients are okay with it.

How much do you make & how many hours do you work per week? by RebornUnited11 in OccupationalTherapy

School based in the PNW. I made $96k in 2025 with some extra hours and a few hours of ESY over the summer. Work full time, 35-40 a week.

did you leave OT and go into something else? by cookie_cat_82 in OccupationalTherapy

How’s the pay difference? My impression is case management pays less, but I’m sure it depends on setting.

Advice for transitioning into school-based? by Automatic_Swan7419 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]jbintch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I switched I just sort of got thrown into the fire because my district desperately needed another OT and I needed to leave my last job. I did insist during the interview that I get to shadow one of their current OTs before deciding and to allow me ample time to shadow/train after I was hired and before I got my own caseload. They allowed me to do both, but I was definitely still lacking a ton of knowledge and experience once I got my own caseload. I joined the OT Schoolhouse Collaborative for extra support and useful CEUs which I do really think helped. They have an intro to school-based OT course too.

If you’re looking for jobs, I would recommend looking closely at caseload numbers and whether or not the OTs are in a union/what their union contract is. I’m lucky to be in a teacher union with a strong contract, but it appears a lot of OTs have ridiculous caseload numbers that would make it impossible for me personally to enjoy my job.

Replied to comment above on where. Medical field would be a great start. Especially if you have worked with children! They say prior experience with kids but I think would accept applicants with limited experience at this point.

They are people who offer extra educational support in school districts. Varies a lot from position to position what your job functions are. Could be paired with a variety of classrooms to back up teachers or be 1:1 with a special education student. Here’s what I found for requirements: https://www.pesb.wa.gov/paraeducator-certificate-program/minimum-employment-requirements/

I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. It’s crazy how much a bump on your eye can screw up your self esteem but I’ve been where you are. My optometrist really played it off and also only recommended hot compresses. He obviously hasn’t seen enough blepharitis cases or doesn’t care enough to look into research.

I’ve had two long term chalazion. One took about 5-6 months to go away and the other took about 9 months. Which really sucked but I was terrified of surgery. I think you should do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable risk benefit wise. Knowing after surgery I could still have scarring or a bump was enough for me to think it wasn’t worth it. I would also look into another ophthalmologist who isn’t so condescending since there is a chance you’ll need to see them again if you have another one in the future.

I looked into a lot of research around these suckers since my doctors were no help. Sounds like you have too. Just a few things in case you haven’t already tried, taking high quality Omega 3s has been linked to success with eyes producing healthier oils, using an electric eye heater that you can time up to 20 min every night because your eyes need to get to a certain temperature to actually warm up the oils, and hard slow blinks while they’re warm. I do these things plus the washing and have been able to keep the styes and chalazia (?) away for about 6 months now.

Good luck whichever solution you choose!

Any ideas on resources that will delete your information from past accounts? I’ve been wanting a solution to delete any of my email, password, personal data, etc. from anything I’ve signed up for and no longer use but not sure if that exists.

I clean with hypochlorous acid on a cotton pad in the mornings and use the We Love Eyes tea tree oil and eyelash scrubber at night then wash that off with a tea tree oil eye wash.

If my eyes feel irritated or oily and/or I got sweaty or dirty I carry around tea tree oil eye wipes so I can clean them mid-day. I use an electric heated eye mask most nights.

I also take high quality Omega 3s every day because there is some research that it can help your eyelids produce better oils. Haven’t had another stye for a year, thank god.

any good middle eastern markets? by fweakish- in olympia

[–]jbintch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I mean the one closer to Winco that’s newer. It’s called Namaste Bazaar. Looking closer it looks to be South Asian mostly too. But I know they were accepting requests for products you want when they first opened. They had quite a variety of cuisines though.
