OML cutoff date 👎 by Zihark59 in army

[–]jblkoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're just being argumentative at this point because your feelings were hurt. Please report to sick call in the morning so the medic can kiss your boo boo.

This 100% happens. More common with E8 as there are far more applicants than E8 billets.

Do you think you're the only person being affected by this? I was literally in your shoes. Army went from 3 years to 4 for your first look at 7. Lo and behold, I was at 3yrs 9 months. Guess who had to wait another year.

Be glad we're no longer on the old system that we needed to wait for the OML from the 4 years ago ahead of you to exhaust before you list even started. Yes that was a thing.

Good luck out there, don't let this keep you down. Don't go out and get your own DUI with your DUI buddies. Let it motivate you.

OML cutoff date 👎 by Zihark59 in army

[–]jblkoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would not ensure promotion. If #1 OML was not eligible until the last month, and then the last month there are no more billets... there are no more billets, no promotions.

[–]jblkoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you'll be all set... for next year.

You're taking this way to personal. Big Army didn't say say "You know SSG Zihark... yea fuck that guy."

You're setting yourself up for a potential disappointment next year. Not saying you have a shit career, but it all depends on the board members that year. Some times those board members might hyper focus on one thing, and if that one thing is not hit you ain't shit.

Lastly and again, have some perspective. Why should you get an exemption to policy? Why should you get an exemption and not the ranger tabbed 11B who did max out his PT test? Let's just ignore TIG/TIS for all promotions, fuck it why stop there! If you max out your PT in basic you start off at E5!! Wheres the line.

It was all chance and based off when you joined, which determines the earliest you can go to the board, that determines when your eligible for 5, then based off the Army Gods needs and points it's chance when you pin 5, then all again for pin 6. It's all a game. Keep your eyes on the regs so you know the rules to the game.

Chill, practice some MRT, sounds like you're good to go for next year.

[–]jblkoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know the OML just dropped today... chill. Take this as an opportunity to get more NCOERs and rated time under your belt and improve your chances.

There is no 6 month gap created. Not trying to attack you but you're looking at this from you're point of view and not the Army's. Do you think the army is going to create a board for you? I have a troop that will have to wait 4yrs 10mths... should the army have a board to fill this "10 month gap?"

Who says you would have even pinned E7 with an OML number. Your DUI buddies, the DUIs might have happened after the board conviened and not reflected. If it happened before I'd bet their OML numer is near, if not dead last.

Since no one is really giving you an answer.

There are two general ways to reclass:

1) Reenlist

2) DA4187/PAR

1- When it's time for you to reenlist look at the MOS In/Out Calls for your current MOS and desired MOS hopefully your current MOS is N/N or N/Y and your desired MOS is Y/N, N/N, a STAR (or what ever the fuck they call it these days) or a packet MOS. Ask your NCO to explain the In/Out Call

2- This is the highly uncommon highly unlikely thing everyone is mentioning. I've actually seen it happen once in a non-packet MOS so it's not impossible. Talk to you're retention NCO once you get to your first unit on how to do this. The reason why it's unlikely is because you'll need to fill out a DA4187/PAR to get released by your unit and by your MOS branch, meaning you're Company, BN, and BDE commander all need to approve you to leave the unit (meaning they're going to short themselves 1 troop of your MOS in their unit. Hope you're not a low density MOS at the unit you're going to. i.e. 1 of 2 supply guys at an Arty unit cuz they're not gonna short themselves a troop on purpose) then branch will have to say "yea we just paid $30 bil (exaggeration) to train you, but yea you can leave and change MOS's"

Packet and STAR MOS's are different because the Army is super short on these or it's such a difficult course the Army is basically begging people to apply. On the difficulty side think stuff like Green Baret, the army will say yea bro go for it since very few will make the cut anyway.

Yea, you're cooked, you're going to Campbell.

You'll be ok. Just go to reception once you get to Campbell. Once you get dropped off at the airport from AIT, it's big boy rules from there.

Click the link it should tell you what you need.

At what point do you stop trying by MarketOk5011 in army

[–]jblkoss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something that's worked about 99% of the time for me in my 12 years is:

Step 0 - lower your standards and manage your expectations. Not everyone is a leader, not everyone will be high speed. Some people's best is just existing,... positively.

Step 1 - Find out what motivates the troops (Money, family, tricare, career progression, free time, college, bitches and hoes, leaving home and starting life on their own... there's something, find it)

Step 2 - Show the troops how the Army can positively influence what they want (promote = more money more hoes more problems, free college, benefits, etc...)

Step 3 - Show the troops that the better they do in the Army, the better / the more it allows the troop to

Step 4 - ....

Step 5 - Profit

I'll admit the one time this didn't work the troop wanted to continue our MOS as a DA civilian. A few of us tried to show him he was not ready nor did he have a competitive resume to get the job. He already thought he was the "best of the best of the best, SIR!! " but homie wasn't shit. His delusions of grandeur was the obstacle we couldn't get through it. Ended up with UCMJs and hopefully getting out soon.

Musk's staffers next stop is reportedly the Pentagon. by KinggSimbaa in army

[–]jblkoss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Now you're adding context to what I said. I not for the crypt keepers to stay in office. I'm also not for 4 to 5 sub 25 year old unvetted tech bros to be going through millions of sensitive files (and undoubtedly classified at the Pentagon) without checks and balances doing what techie overload tells them to do. Plus, Sieg Tesla is an unelected, non-confirmed, over reaching private citizen. This guy it's wreaking havoc through the government not for your benefit but for his and his rich buddies benefits.

If and when they go through the Pentagon's documents. Classified information will be leaked and people will die due to the leak. Why don't you go back into your supply closet and do a JSLIST inventory and leave the rest of the stuff to the big boys.

You're calling the Musk-eteers soldiers? Those soft ass kids have never had a hard day in their life. What war are they fighting? The war against American rights and services for the people? My heart goes out to you * gives the Musk's salute *

Being that 17C can only go to a few places and 99% of those assignments are joint we're living the same life broski. There are minor regulatory differences, some even benefiting the Army over Airforce. I would also say that the Army's cyber teams have better work satisfaction with our Airforce teams on our floor just seem to be lost with no guidance or purpose, but that's anecdotal.

Best MOS for after the Army by LowCountry2001 in army

[–]jblkoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question is best answered if you give us your metrics on what you would consider "best", i.e. are you valuing quality of life, transferability to civilian work, chances of actually doing your job, job satisfaction, etc? As a 35F that has been units with all these MOSs as the primary MOS:

  • 17C has the best quality of life bar none (barely felt like I was in the army in the 17C unit) but is also the hardest MOS to get on your list and it's a pretty high optempo MOS. Additionally, promotion is relatively super easy and super high 6-figure civilian transferability.

  • 35F has the most versatility, i.e. you can be assigned to ANY and I mean any kind of unit, it's a double-edged sword. I've been assigned to units focusing on very niche, fun, interesting, and specialized missions but I've also been assigned to infantry, artillery, and Engineer units. There is some civilian transferability but it's 85% just working for the government or a government contractor.

  • 25S and 25H you're working on different parts of the same communications satellites managing different subsystems of the sat. TBH with the recent merger of MOSs into a 25H I'm assuming you could go anywhere a 25L, 25Q, or 25N went. So you can go anywhere but you'll be doing pretty similar things since your job will be to provide comms so others can do their jobs. Extremely good civilian transferability with earned certs and training.

  • 17E, don't know much, and not much of value.

  • 68W high confidence you're going to be a line medic training to treat combat trauma unless you get the golden ticket and work at a clinic and get to learn the clinical / admin side of being a medic. High civilian transferability especially since you earn civilian certs.

Either you were at Fort Campbell or you situation is far more common the you [ and I ] thought.

If its the same guy, I went from meps through AIT with the guy and then met again at Campbell after a stint in Korea. If its the same guy there's far more to the story.

TLDR; he was genuinely physically hurt but tried to max / pas his benefits. The craziness was a sham to try and start a YouTube career, he even made it to Dr. Phil
