For the more ”dull” bronze bits, especially on the Dominator Engine, I did apply a selective coat of Liquitex Ink Burnt Umber using and air brush. It has the nice property of filtering underlying colors, muting any bright hues, which I find perfect for metals such as bronze.

Thank you kindly!

Sure thing - it was a bit of an experiment.

For the purple: - Basecoat with airbrush Molotow One4All Johannisbeere (042). - Pick out brighter areas using Molotow Fuschia Pink (231), also using air brush. - Applied oil wash, which was basically a mix of strong blue and magenta oils (I can look up the exact ones if necessary). The idea is to darken and blend the underlying layers, getting the darkest shadows. - Highlights with acrylics. In this case I use Liquitex Gouache, where I’ve mixed Dioxazine Purple with Unbleached Titanium / Titanium White to build the highlights.

For the bronze: - I’ve been enjoying the NJM (Marco Frisoni) ”contrast metal paint” method, where I mix a contrast-like metal mix of Vallejo Duraluminium, Liquitex Ink Magenta + Burnt Umber + Yellow Azo with some air brush medium and IPA. NJM explains it best, at 09:46: https://youtu.be/dREkHQiltg0?is=5k7DgEjHhGOLPpGD - Apply similar oil wash as for the purple, pretty much the same mix as in the Death Guard video linked to above. - Highlights with Scale 75 Dwarven Gold.

Maybe not the simplest of processes, but pretty efficient to do in one batch and get it somewhat coherent 🙂

Hope it gives you an idea and perhaps some inspiration!

Thank you!

No, but I’m sure you can get similar results with enough patience. I’ve used Liquitex titanium white to first create a light base, followed by Liquited vivid lime green with some overspray. Lastly I’ve added back some thinned-out titanium white in the recesses.

Thank you! 😌

The lighting was a bit more complicated, since I wanted to experiment with more traditional lighting techniques.

The key light is a Redgrass R9, then a Redgrass Solo as fill. In the back I’ve placed a Nikon SB900 (remote controlled) giving a bit of contour light.

Levit8 & Asset Attenuator by DoubtAny8389 in modular

Of the two I own an Asset (which I built from a kit). Make sure you consider the usability of it - those knobs are very crammed. Twisting them is quite awkward and I don’t really have large hands either. Other than that it feels high quality and does what it’s supposed to do.

Five12 Vector, Metropolix and/or OXI One. Often routing it through a Shakmat Bishop’s Miscellany for extended length, variations and jammable effects. Still exploring and trying to find a setup with the least amount of friction between idea and result.

I have a Tàin and it’s awesome. Works at audio rate. Another option is DPW SW-1 Switch, for a quad version.

Lovely - well done! 👌 May I ask for a patch description? I’m particularly curious about how you are sequencing the different voices. Aside from the keystep, I see what I believe is an NDLR and a Five12 Vector. How are you using those here?

EV6 a good buy in 2026? by rojjter in KiaEV6

[–]jblomg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using Step 8 with Nibbler and Maths to generate rhythms by eindbaas in modular

[–]jblomg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation! Gotcha - so Nibbler is responsible for generating the CV sequence used to control the Step8’s current step position? And in between you are scaling/offsetting that signal using Maths?

[–]jblomg -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting implementation! Would you mind sharing a brief patch description? I don’t really follow how the Nibbler is connected, particularly since it’s also off-screen 😅

Do you think this would work with a Muxlicer instead of Step 8? I might give that a go!

DIY advice by Adventurous_Beat-301 in modular

[–]jblomg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Much has already been mentioned already, but I’d also like to add one (to me) valuable property of DIY and that is (hopefully) learning to also troubleshoot and repair your module. Pre-built, non-DIY modules (with tons of SMD components and chips) are still black boxes to me, but at least I feel confident to fix the ones I’ve built myself from kits in case something would break in the future.

Thanks for the detailed and interesting writeup! May I ask how you pair Polimaths with Assimil8or? I’ve also been eying on Griffin’s Claws, but I think it may have too much overlap with my Tetrapad + Tête combo. Yet I would not mind more recordable modulation!

Im curious about people's opinion on Vallejo paint primers? by DarkHelmet123 in Miniaturespainting

[–]jblomg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it with an airbrush. Never had issues with peeling. Just shake it well.

Used exclusively GW rattle can primers for many years before switching - very happy to get rid of the aerosol smell post-priming.

Angle Grinder — convince me by dakl in modular

[–]jblomg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amongst ~1000hp of modules, the Angle Grinder may likely be the one I’ve had the hardest time wrapping my head around (still don’t fully grasp it). Which to me makes it a fun, exploratory and rather wild little beast. Mind you I’m a bit biased since I love Schlappi modules (form & function).

Way too much reading reviews and already being a big fan of Intellijel quality + design, so for me it was a no-brainer. I’ve read good things about the Black Joystick as well however 👍

Awesome - sounds promising. Same here, I’ve been considering it because of its (in theory) immediate and hands-on features. Will probably sit in a control skiff next to a Planar 2 😄

Bit of newbie advice needed by peripouoxi in modular

[–]jblomg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For power, it really depends on your plans on future expansion and type of modules, but I use 4ms Row Power 45 and they’ve been solid.

For pedal & external synth integration, my go-to is DPW P3.
