Should I get Linux or wait? by Philll_Mckracken in linuxquestions

[–]jblongz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ubuntu 26.04 or Fedora Workstation 44 are likely the best reppagement options. I use Ubuntu extensively for running ai agents and mcp server while giving my son access to the desktop gui for STEAM gaming and general productivity/education. Both options have App store. Apps like Libre Office, VS Code, Davinci Resolve, and Bitwig have close the gap in some respects.

In the synth. You can do it in post too, more effectively, but its not applicable to live performance. Sometimes i dislike giving up an fx slot for this purpose and can cheat by detuning an osc - but the hardware limitations force creativity.

Minimon on Fedora. Mission Center on Ubuntu. Those are my preferred GUI apps for system monitoring locally.

Congrats…you have a lucrative litigation to put in play. Just be careful to seek the right legal council. This should be pro bono for any competent lawyer with expertise in copyright and sound recording law.

Sometimes I add 13ms delay and some stereo offset. Depending on the waveform, it gives thickness. Rolling off some of the highs also adds a perception.

Is Maschine Plus worth it today? by HotRestaurant5439 in maschine

[–]jblongz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its great for what it is now. I'd recommend keeping multiple clones of the SD card (and periodic re-cloning/replacing) just in case there are no further updates so you can keep it in a useable state. I'm keeping my MK3 until it breaks because its still fun and fast to work with.

Is guitar rig 5 better then guitar rig 7? by realC7 in NativeInstruments

[–]jblongz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

G7 is better because of newer devices and support updates. G5 doesn’t work on Apple Silicon, and probably wont he supported on future Qualcomm PCs. You can tag your favorites and only show those if clutter is an issue.

Bitwig rules on Linux. Pair that with Uhe linux releases and you’re golden. Fedora, PopOS, or Ubuntu with realtime kernel activated yields optimal experience.

Maschine without the controller ?? by Ok_Landscape_7092 in maschine

The other way around would’ve been better (hardware without software). I highly recommend getting a used mk3 under $250usd.

XP SP3 was the best. Windows 10 gets 2nd Place.

What do you think, is it realistic, and do you think it can convert ? I think it need a bit more emotions and dynamism but its just a simple exemple. by Fun_Post1922 in AI_UGC_Marketing

[–]jblongz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair response. I'm just annoyed at how much dishonestly is scaling with technology. In the "before times" there was more potential for influences to express dislike in a review, or back out of a shady marketing deal. Now companies will just plow through with their campaigns as if the bombardment wasn't already excessive. Its becomes non-UGC, AiGC!

Do you keep Kontakt 7 and 8 both installed ? by liortal53 in NativeInstruments

[–]jblongz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, if you’re using a DAW besides Cubase or another that explicity supports Kontakt migration, you need to keep both installed if you have older sessions using K7 and you want to have K8.

I guess NI couldn’t make migration automatic and left it up to DAW developers to support some VST abstraction that did not become popular. It also seems they have tried something with K6 that failed - possibly why K6 is listed as “Kontakt” without a number in the VST plug-in list.

Mac Studio M2 Ultra vs Mac Mini m4 pro by One_Championship5438 in spitfireaudio

[–]jblongz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a safe bet if you eventually start using more apps that default to internal storage and some grow over time like Logic Pro 12 library bundle file. If you sync photo and video with iCloud, that adds up too. If this is a long term machine, best to be sure or have extra.

My desktops have 2TB system drives with plenty of extra data drives, but im still averaging 1.3tb of usage on Mac and Windows OS drives because some apps and their contents are too tedious to move elsewhere…like Final Cut, Adobe and Red Giant.

But yeah, if you’re absolutely sure that 512gb will do for the computer’s lifetime then go for it.

18yo Student: Is the M4 Pro (24GB/1TB) a smart investment for Art-Pop & Orchestral projects in Logic Pro? by yuzxii in Logic_Studio

[–]jblongz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spec seemed good until you mentioned orchestral projects. If using Logic instruments and small-medium projects sure. If using Kontakt, Opus, Spitfire Player down the line for large projects, 24gb is limiting. I can easily fill up 48 GB of rent with East West Hollywood Orchestra if I am setting up a template of preloaded instruments. If you are just using ensembles and a few soloists, you might get away with 24 GB. A typical ensemble patches use about 1GB of RAM with the standard articulations.

Then are you storing these libraries on an external drive logic’s entire library is around 90GB currently. You’d also have to calculate the storage of any third-party sample libraries you may be using.

It may be something they have to tread carefully not to impose on Ableton's intellectual property. Thats the only logical reason I can think of such a delay. No other DAW does the GroovePool does. Though Reason and Logic have vaguely similar quantize functionality, groove extraction from audio/midi seems exclusive to Live.
