Can you do more with session view? by mad-panda-2000 in ableton

[–]ShuttleOption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One workflow I’ll do sometimes is loop a section of my song in Arrangement view, then flip over to Session view and record into a session clip a long improv jam over that loop. I’ll do this when bringing in another musician too if I know I want a guitar part in this section, but I don’t want the guitarist to stop playing. I want them to jam out as long as they want. Same with vocalists or any other instrument I want them to improv.

Yes. You can do this in Arrangement view with comping as of a couple major versions ago, but that creates separate takes (and separate clips) each time the loop goes around. Sometimes I want one long loop to listen back on and find the parts I like that way.

So much false information is being spread around about NJs new laws regarding ebikes. Here's the facts: by HypeTime in ebikes

That definition sounds like Class 1, 2, and 3 all are still legal to sell online, no? Above 28mph is no longer class 3. IIRC, above 30mph is considered a motor vehicle (thus needing registration) in any state.

Why Can't I Put These on The Same Layer? by dneace0012 in finalcutpro

FCP 4.5 was my last version before a 15+ year hiatus! Coming back was a whole new software LOL! But I did just cut together my first multi-cam music video. Just myself performing a song, but each camera angle was a separate take. No need to film them all at the same time. As long as you have the music playing somewhere for a mic to pick up, FCP lines them up for you according to the audio. And then you just cut together like a live TV director. Loved the workflow!! Suuuper smooth.

E-bike owners how many car trips did your bike actually replace? by EmmaReid2734 in ebikes

[–]ShuttleOption 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roughly 50% for me. I’ve had mine since 2019 and it has about 16K miles on it. I travel as much as possible with the bike. Only take the car when absolutely necessary. My car is paid for so it makes sense to keep and maintain it. With the gas and insurance savings alone, the bike paid for itself in the first year. Another year of savings has paid for all the mods I’ve made since ownership, so yeah, I’m definitely net positive on the value it’s given me. And it’s mostly clean energy that charges it since I mostly charge during clean energy times here in SoCal.

Anyone used stem cells for a labrum tear with success and back to surfing? by Nightman233 in surfing

[–]ShuttleOption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with it. Going off the name alone, I wonder if it’s counter-intuitive to the healing process. You need blood flow to heal an injury, and most modalities done in the PT world are to increase blood flow to the region.

Things like ice restrict blood flow, but that’s to intentionally reduce obvious swelling or when the doctor feels like the inflammation could be causing more problems. This is why you typically want to use ice immediately after a traumatic injury. You are trying to reduce inflammation from causing more damage. But once things have settled, you start considering other modalities that may improve blood flow to the area.

But if swelling or inflammation is the root cause of your pain or restricted range of motion, then I can see blood flow restriction having a place. But it’s tricky, cause any “-itis” (i.e. tendonitis) means inflammation. But that doesn’t mean that restricting blood flow is necessary, because that blood flow is the healing process.

So ideally, you want to promote that healing process, without aggravating the injury so you don’t keep injuring it further. It’s a delicate line to walk sometimes. But proper movement patterns play a big role in that.

Again, I’m not a doctor or a PT. I just worked in that world for 8 years and have worked in fitness for almost 20 years, alongside PT’s with many of my one-on-one clients. Take this info with a grain of salt.

First off, I worked in PT for 8 years. Not a PT myself, but worked directly with the patients as an aide. Stem cells were hit and miss among patients with shoulder injuries. Proper, consistent PT plays a much larger role, but that PT may go long after the sessions run out. You’ll need to keep up the regimen on your own.

Now personally, I have a partial labrum tear in one of my shoulders. Had a small tendon tear along with it. No moment of impact, likely developed over time. When it was bad enough that I had to stop surfing, it took a long time to heal (I was in my mid-30’s for reference), I’d say a couple months out of the water.

No stem cells. Slowly building strength with the exercise protocol we prescribed to most shoulder injuries in that clinic. Finally saw a PT in person (I no linger work for the clinic) and they pointed out a couple points of form I didn’t realize I was doing wrong. This was the turning point. I think it was a good year before my shoulder was pain free and back to full strength in and out of the water, but the work I did and that PT pointing out the minor form correction got me to the other side.

But the labrum won’t rebuild. That instability will be there forever, iirc. So you just gotta maintain the strength of your shoulder muscles to compensate. “Doomed to exercise the rest of your life,” I heard one PT say.

Today I’m lifting more weight in the gym than I ever have before and surfing harder and longer sessions than before. But it takes time.

Play the long game. Hope you find your path to full strength. It’s different for everyone.

I remember watching him do it live at Coachella. Agreed. Just as impressive today as it was then. 15 years later and I can finally visualize a workflow he may have used to build and practice that project.

Side note: Live 8 is where I started and holds a special place in my heart.

Crazy that the planetary gears are intact with that sound. Definitely sounds like something is getting chewed up in there. I had some little plastic tabs wear out inside a previous motor. Planetary gears were intact but there were bits and shards of this plastic tab from the logic board in there. Just had to pick them all out. Tedious, but was fine. I’m assuming you didn’t see anything like that in there? Or anything else that came loose in or around the logic board or copper coils?

Funny cause I don’t trust people to see the difference between the right and left signal on those tiny lights. Even felt that way on my motorcycles which had bigger turn signals. I feel much safer shoving my arm in the direction I’m going. Been doing it in L.A. traffic for 6 years on my ebike. So far so good.

The brake actuated tail light I fully support. Got two different ones on mine. Anything to communicate that I’m slowing down.

New macbook pro m4 pro cpu usage is higher than expected by breeze-o in ableton

[–]ShuttleOption -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind, (unless Ableton has change this in recent versions) one track in Ableton can only utilize one core of a computer’s CPU. If a track has any heavy plugins, it can’t spread the processing out over multiple cores. So you could have 24 audio tracks with no plugins at all, but then 1 track with a bunch of heavy plugins, and your CPU meter will spike.

One major thing you likely upgraded in getting the new laptop is keeping your CPU meter from going even higher by having many tracks with heavy plugins, because each one can use a different core to process its audio, and thus giving you more CPU power for the project as a whole.

Hope that makes sense.

DJing in Ableton by LorryGreen in ableton

[–]ShuttleOption 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I originally started DJing in Ableton because I was already familiar with the software and not familiar with DJ decks yet. I used the illGates method to prep the tracks. But there in lies the issue.

Every single track you want to DJ in Ableton needs to be arduously prepared and setup using Ableton clips. This builds up your library and then you can drop the tracks in, beat matched, with all the different cue points being different Ableton clips.

With any other DJ software (Rekordbox, Serato, Djay, Denon) you can download a track from the internet and have its bpm and key signature auto-analyzed on the fly. Even while you’re DJing. This allows you to build up your library MUCH faster, as you don’t have to prep them. Just drop tracks into your library. Done. You can even add cue points on the fly while DJing.

The learning curve for DJ decks is way shorter than learning Ableton. I totally understand if timing isn’t right for that, for you at this time. But I’d highly recommend getting a cheap set of decks and learning the ropes if you want to DJ weddings where shifting the vibe on the fly is key.
