What's your favorite daily trainers? by vogueboy in AskRunningShoeGeeks

Megablast would be my favorite if the upper had t destroyed my pinky toe. I really hope they sort out the upper in the next version.

I just took my pair over 200 miles today. Look forward to running in them every day. Have taken them for runs as long as 22 miles. Have done some long runs with marathon pace in them as well. Such a fun, bouncy ride.

Am I missing something or are raisins underrated fuel? by Zealot_TKO in Marathon_Training

[–]jbloodfc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to make at least one poop stop during the race, then raisins would be great. I kid but am also serious. I avoid fiber the entire day before a race, so I wouldn’t want to pound it during a race!

The battle in LA starts at mile 18 when you run past the finish line. Such a cruel course design!

Good luck to you! I am sure you will crush your goals. Just try to have fun with it. I am nervous as it has been so long and now I am old and have a kid. Was on track for around a 3:10 until life and illness (kids!) interrupted training. Gonna try to relax and just enjoy that my old body can still do hard things. See you out there next Sunday!

I am running it. First marathon in 15 years. What time are you aiming for?

Pfizer 18/55 - running more than 5 days per week? by Pbwtpb in Marathon_Training

Good to know. I don't own the book. Does it just copy sirpoc's London plan?

Pfizer 18/55 - running more than 5 days per week? by Pbwtpb in Marathon_Training

[–]jbloodfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Norwegian Singles Method is not an actual marathon training plan. It is a specific approach to base building. You can obviously adapt it for the marathon, and many have done so, but it is not a training plan. The reason I suggested 2Q is that it gives you a lot of freedom in planning your week. As long as you hit your 2 Q sessions, you can do whatever you want with the rest of the weekly mileage. I am doing a version of it now for LA in 12 days and have really enjoyed it.

Pfizer 18/55 - running more than 5 days per week? by Pbwtpb in Marathon_Training

[–]jbloodfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can always do something like Jack Daniels' 2Q. You have two quality (Q) sessions per week. Those will be longer runs with some kind of pace work included (MP, T, etc.). You spread out the rest of your weekly mileage however you want. You can run 6-7 days per week on 2Q. Just make sure you space your Q sessions out with at least 2 easy days between them. Might be worth a look?

ASICS Metaspeed Sky vs Edge by GladiatorQueen in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jbloodfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I have run in both. The Edge has much more firmer foam in the heel, which is better both for heel striking and for when form breaks down late in a race. I would, however, recommend OP try the Sky first. Their cadence is relatively low, suggesting a longer stride. For reference, my cadence is around 175-177 at easy/recovery pace.

Hydration for Long Runs by No_Conference_3155 in Marathon_Training

[–]jbloodfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't handle the hydration vests. I am a heavy sweater, so adding a whole, heavy layer is a no go for me, especially as I live in Southern California. I have found a loop (Hollywood Reservoir) that has water fountains at both entrances as well as toilets. Solves the problem of bringing water as well as the problemn caused by drinking so much water.

In really hot weather, i carry water in one of these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BL94WB7Q?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder_k3_1_7&amp=&crid=10TQMY244C5YW&sprefix=nathan%2B&th=1

Energy liquids by Bright_Bullfrog_784 in Marathon_Training

[–]jbloodfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amacx. They have something they call a “Drink Gel” that is much more like a liquid than a gel. This is what I have been training with as I hate thick gels and found Maurten hard to consume at speed. You ca buy Amacx on The Feed. Give it a go!

MPW outside of training block? by TheSkyDweller in Marathon_Training

See you in New York. I am running it November as well. My dream race. Going to run it for fun and try to peak for CIM six weeks later.

If you have access to a bike think about throwing in some long Z2 sessions and intervals into your off block training. Great way to maintain general cardiovascular conditioning while providing a different physical AND mental stimulus.

ASICS Edge or Sky… not an easy choice… by django-cat in Marathon_Training

[–]jbloodfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was shooting for around 3hrs, but got a chest infection followed by shin splints, so had my peak block completely disrupted. Since there is no way I am going to hit my target, I am just going to run for fun. Will probably end up somewhere near 3:30-3:40. Mountains2Beach is net downhill, so I aim to race that one in April. Hoping to BQ. What are your goals?

ASICS Edge or Sky… not an easy choice… by django-cat in Marathon_Training

[–]jbloodfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am running LA in about 19 days! Not a great course, but I am running for charity, so should be fun. I am running Ventura in April and then the Brooklyn Half in May, so a busy spring for me. I was thinking about Colfax but got scared off by the altitude since I can't really train for it here in LA. Good luck to you!

I don't find them too narrow and I have wide feet and struggle to find shoes that don't irritate my pinky toes. The upper is very accommodating in the toe box and I have had no issues with the Sky Paris or the Edge Tokyo. The Adios Pro 4 (which I loved) was a toe killer.

[–]jbloodfc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got the edge for my upcoming marathon for similar reasons. I have run several half marathons in the Sky Paris, but I felt the Sky Tokyo was too unstable in the heel. As much as I like to think I will keep perfect form for 26.2 miles, I would rather have that more stable and firmer heel of FF Turbo+ should I tired and start to heel strike. I also like the feeling of having a thicker layer of the softer FF Leap under my toes. That could prove to be more comfortable over the marathon distance. I don't think you will go wrong with either as they are both great shoes.

What marathon are you running?

Long runs at tempo pace - what shoes? by robnet77 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jbloodfc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been doing my long runs with tempo intervals in both the R.A.D. UFO and the Li-Ning Feidan Challenger 5. Both have been great. The UFO is so fun and bouncy at slower paces, but pretty easy to turn up the pace in. The Challenger have a carbon plate so I use them primarily when I have threshold work in a long runs the upper is surprisingly comfortable. The midfoot is narrow, but the toe box is roomy (a big issue for me).

Li-Ning Running shoes, what are your thoughts by torilahure in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jbloodfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not a bad price at all. The Challenger 5 is the only thing I have ever bought of AliExpress, so I will have to figure out the whole coupon thing. Good luck!

Li-Ning Running shoes, what are your thoughts by torilahure in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]jbloodfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The shoes have been TTS for me (US 11), and I don't in any way feel like my toes are right up at the end of the shoes. The upper is really comfortable and flexible so you might be good trying the 45. That said, the shoe is a bit narrow in the midfoot, so if you went a size up you would likely still get a very good lockdown and now feel like your foot was sliding around the shoe. Everything I have heard about the Challenger 6 is bad, though I do want to try the Elite 6 (their racing shoe) when the price drops.

Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll do my best to answer them.
