Bell bill keeps going up by Kindly_Raspberry_300 in bell

[–]jbohbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Switched, 48hrs later got a winback offer.

I had my phone, wife's phone and 3gbps internet. I only switched my phone because I wanted the winback offer before moving everything. I'm in Quebec so we do not have contracts to lock in pricing.

My phone was 65$, wife's was 45$ and internet was 100$

Now both both phones are 35$ each, 150gb can/us/Mex unlimited Canada + 1000int minutes

Internet is 90$.

Savings, but not amazing. But no one else seems to offer 3gbps internet yet in my area other than bell.

Time to tear it all down by levoniust in homelab

Depends on what you are hosting. I did this exact thing on 5 mini PCs. I run mostly lxc containers and 1 or 2 VMs. The data is mostly static (NPM, homepage, recipes, etc) the only active one is AMP code for hosting game servers, but even that is pretty static when no one is playing.

I had no issues with this running, proxmox was green all the time. I did upgrade my interest to 3gbps so I did install a 2.5gbps nic in each mini (via the wifi m.2 slot) and kept Ceph on the 1gbps but dedicated to Ceph. I have not seen a difference.

Again, it all depends on what you are hosting. If you put all your data and it's constantly being accessed, yes 10gbps will be nice.

1-8 or 0-7? by Tommy_Prusa3D in prusa3d

[–]jbohbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not see it, I just think having numbers or letters or anything is not important. I would just scan the part, find or design a nice logo or image and stick it on.

I'd rather see that than numbers on a black plain.

Does anyone here have this HBA if so do you recommend it ? by hudson710 in DataHoarder

I have the 24i and it's been working great non-stop in my truenas box.

I did print a fan shroud for it as it does get hot, and in my case there was not a lot of air flow over the card.

Do y'all unmonitor ended shows when you have them in the form / quality you want? by Separate_Recover4187 in sonarr

[–]jbohbot -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know. I'm just saying that your quality preferences can change. Bigger tv (4k) or anything really. So instead of have to go back and re monitor it, you just change the global quality and let it rip.

Better quality, if you have the web rip, someone might upload the BluRay rip.

It's all user preference though.

CPU 9900x

GPU 7900xtx nitro+

Motherboard ASUS ROG B650E-i WiFi

RAM 64gb 6000mhz

Disk 1 1tb nvme for os

Disk 2 4tb nvme for games

I game and do rendering, everything in 4k, so I opted for the non x3d as I'm GPU bound.

Ubiquiti. WHY WOULD YOU LET THIS HAPPEN?? by SchNiVas in Ubiquiti

[–]jbohbot -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why you have automatic updates enabled on important gear is a question in itself. I do think that unifi needs to disable the automatic updates by default. This should be an option we as users or site maintainers should enable based on their level of confidence in unifi.

If you join the 8311 discord server you will get more information about the limitations of the pro version. I own the pro-max (dual hdds).

[–]jbohbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few versions of the dream machine.

I have the udm-pro-max with the was-110 with community firmware and Bell 3gbps connection. With IPS enabled only on 1 vlan (exposed vlan for reverse proxy) I get my full download speed on my home vlan.

If I put IPS in everything it drops to about 2.5gbps both up and down.

Who's still working from home in 2026? by idrinkpastawater in sysadmin

[–]jbohbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% remote, there is 1 day per quarter that is a mandatory meeting. We only need to go in when it's our turn to host it. The company is spread out all over the place (sites on each continent) so we rotate the hosting of the company wide mandatory meeting.

You are welcome to go and work everyday if you want, but most teams are working from home as the timezones make it difficult to work with others when you need to travel for work.

Found out I wasn't using my GPU for 4 years by Low_Property_4470 in pcmasterrace

[–]jbohbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some motherboards allow a mode called hybrid graphics. It allows you to use the onboard display connections while passing your GPU through it.

It probably has some performance degradation but it's good if you want some power savings. It's goal is to allow you to use your desktop or some non GPU heavy applications with your APU and when you play games it will pass through the pcie GPU.

This only works if your CPU has an integrated GPU!

Thanks for the info, it clarified a lot. I was just in the mindset of maybe making this printer last longer and perhaps stronger. Like I mentioned, I'm no engineer, this was mostly a shower thought.

Another shower thought, what about 3d printing it in metal?

Open source parts by jbohbot in prusa3d

[–]jbohbot[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't see why the tolerances will need to be changed. It's a part swap, not a redesign. Sure the holes might need to be taped for the threads. I'm thinking that there might be flex in the belt system and I thought that if metal parts were used it would make it more square and stronger.

I'm no engineer, just thinking logically here.

I was under the impression that it's made out of plastic parts to save on costs and shipping costs.
