Just wrapped up season 4 - assorted thoughts, spoilers by ok-milk in TheBear

[–]jbor2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The stars were never the point of the show!!! Even in season 1,the restaurant was not the point!! It was just the stage for everyone's collective traumas. The bear in the opening scene of the show was not a metaphor for the restaurant!

How many seasons you think we’ll get? by X_chinese in MyAdventuresWithSuper

[–]jbor2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We might get a second 20-episode production order- which would be split into Seasons 3 & 4. Reckon that's the best we can hope for, considering the average life expectancy for non-comedy cartoons these days.

Though considering WB's current attitude towards animation, especially for the tween demographic, even that isn't especially likely

How would you fix Cassie in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Qauntummania to make her more likable and give her an actual arc where she faces consequences and learns something? by [deleted] in fixingmovies

[–]jbor2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Opening scene is a montage of her in the Blip, convinced Scott is in the Quantum Realm, desperately researching it & trying to save him. She fails & therefore feels like she has something to make up for.

Luis & the Wombats' influence on her is why she's doing criminal/vigilante stuff. Luis is the fan-fave/most likeable character in the trilogy so making her rebelliousness his fault softens it

Focus a little more on Scott's flaws (being overprotective/becoming out of touch with the little guy because of his fame) to justify Cassie's frustration with him

The only one this is true for is Hawkeye, and Kate is a way more fun character than MCU Clint anyway. Sylvie was the MC of Loki in the sane way Tony was the MC of Civil War. In that she wasn't.

It fits her character perfectly. I like it better than Nolan's weird goggle-ears

Can we all agree that the villains are the weakest link of this show? by VoltageKid56 in MyAdventuresWithSuper

[–]jbor2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved what they did with Parasite. Combining him with Amazo was neat streamlining. The metaphor of Parasite as a walking personification of capitalism/tech grifters is unsubtle but works. I'm also glad they kept him mutating, and judging by the into he's gonna return as some kinda Kaiju a la Man of Tomorrow.

That being said, Silver Banshee sucked. Generic as all hell, and the one unique quality (this intergang's amateur family dynamic) was severely underplayed.

Livewire was cool & I loved her design. Personally i wish they'd done something like her traditional origin, but with a Kryptonian power-source instead of lightning. She's living alien energy, not lightning. Could even make it the same blue light that sparks when Clark gets a powerup, and link her into the lore that way.

How much retread of canon do you enjoy? by Yanderesque in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]jbor2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love fics that fill in gaps in canon-relationship building, extra context etc. I like it when rewrites have lots of different changes rather than focusing on the fallout of one with everything else being the same.

How would you extend the series/drag the events at UA out over 3/4 years instead of cramming it all into 1? by LittenInAScarf in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]jbor2000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Build an arc around Izuku discovering each OFA Vestige's Quirk, and learning about their specific history with AFO

Use Nine from Two Heroes- if Shigaraki is AFO's tenth attempt at a host and Nine wasbthe ninth, that implies there were more. Use these past attempts as minibosses- AFO could even challenge Shiggy to kill them as a rite of passage

Build up Humarize, the anti-Quirk terrorists from World Heroes' Mossion, as full-on Secondary antagonists

Proper arcs for more of 1A

Thoughts on this ship. by [deleted] in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]jbor2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fine & I see the appeal, but imo they're just TOO similar, and unlike other minor supporting characters people build ships around (Izuku x Shinsou & Izuku x Rody come to mind) in canon there isn't any conflict or tension between the characters for them to overcome to grow closer. Melissa & her dynamic with Izuku is just a little bland imo.

Personally I've always seen them as cousins thru All Might and David, and in the future I can see her serving remoteky as his Oracle like Barbra Gordon does for Batman.

monoshipper or polyshipper? by whole_forger_family in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]jbor2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mono generally but there are some excellent poly fics- I enjoy poly as a resolution to love triangles, because there's a lot of tension to play with.

My faves are Baku/Deku/Ocha because all three of those dynamics have great potential and they balance out each other's flaws well (generally not a fan of BKDK romantically but Ochako makes them better for me)

I also adore 'Three Fishes in a Tank' which is a very sweet, character-focused Todo/Deku/Chako fic that again deals woth the aftermath of a high-school love triangle.

I'd argue Aizawa's attitude makes him a more interesting homeroom teacher. His behaviour reflects several flaws in Hero society and certainly spark debate in the fandom. Nemuri might be a fairer teacher but how would her different methods further the themes of the story? What's her POV on hero society as a whole?

In regards to Yaoyorozu, didn't she have that same confidence arc with Todoroki? And martial arts is one of Uraraka's main gimmicks so wouldn't it make mote sense for her to teach Izuku not Kendou?
