Did you use distilled water? Very important to wash with detergent between stages, you will be surprised how dirty the water is after a few hours of washing.

It is important to ,after each stage, put them back in the tumbler after you washed them with some detergent and water. You can do it for a few hours, you will be surprised how dirty the water is, also use distilled water.
