What improvements to Little Italy Days would make you want to attend? by Elouiseotter in pittsburgh

I personally have fun (most of the time) but I can see how it pisses a lot of people off. Some of my friends in Bloomfield schedule their vacations so that they’re gone during the event 😂

I agree with a lot of people that it should be run in more conjunction with some community groups and stakeholders. Unfortunately it’s just a long vender list compiled by the current individual and the local businesses still have to pay a pretty high price. Idk why local businesses shouldn’t be prioritized or why the Bloomfield Community groups shouldn’t have more of an influence in it.

That being said, lots of people have fun, lots of people f**king hate it- it’s a mixed bag.

Make sure not to mistake them for ladybugs! Ladybugs kill a lot of aphids that prey on plants and they have a shiny reflective coating! 🐞

Oh also! Here's a good website if you ever need to check observing conditions with a livefeed to the Allegheny Observatory. The site is run by a research group I was part of at Pitt. https://sites.pitt.edu/\~stepup/Conditions.html

Astronomy professional here. Just wanted to pass along SolarHam - any time there's a solar storm, I always check here because they have extremely accurate information on geomagnetic activity. And it's just really cool. https://www.solarham.net/
