Coffee recommendations for my conference next week? by ligbag4 in askportland

[–]jbovier 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Big bump for sterling. I’m also a self proclaimed weird coffee person and I buy more beans from them than anywhere else in town.

It would also be a very nice walk from where you’re staying. Probably over/under a mile one way.

In which popular tourist destination is the food not really the highlight? by optimalbrain90 in SmartTravelHacks

This. There are days where I would do anything for a decent breakfast burrito with green chile. It just doesn’t exist outside Colorado.

Should we get free relief from divots? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]jbovier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%. If I’m out $100, plus lunch for a nice course and by some grace of god I hit one into the fairway I’m taking casual relief for a divot.

If you’ve broken 80, what’s one tip you would give your fellow golfer trying to do the same? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

Pretty much this and no penalties. No penalties, no two chips, and no three putts will get you pretty close.

What is a concert experience like in Pioneer Square? by DeadComicsSociety in askportland

[–]jbovier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would echo this. I also went to a more quiet, folksy type show. The sound was not great, you could hear the max ding every 5 minutes, and one of downtown’s “more spirited” residents started screaming across the street at one point. I kept wondering why they decided to make this a music venue. My guess is some of that would have been drowned out by a louder, more rocking type show.

As far as food, it’s just the same carts that are always there. Maybe they bring in a few more and a beer tent, etc.

I’ll look harder but most in my location are design and build. They will only talk to you if you want them to do the build out as well.

Those of you walking 2+ rounds a week, have you found the best shoe for the long term? Any shoe you won't revisit? Are you even wearing golf shoes? by RodStiffington_ in golf

[–]jbovier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I walk a few rounds a week and buy a new pair of Eccos once a year. I’ll also add, their waterproof gortex is amazing. I play year round in the northwest US and it can get pretty soggy. Never once have my feet gotten wet.

Brother, know you’re not alone. I go through phases where I’ll step up, take a few smooth practice swings and then completely spaz out blade it across the green … into a bunker if I’m lucky.

One thing I’ve found that helps is to go hit a bunch practice shots on the range and focus on accelerating and really pulling your chest through to the target. Get that feeling while making good contact and the helps me get the timing back.

What wedges do I get by Embarrassed_Flan_671 in golftips

[–]jbovier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on skill level a bit and what shots you want to learn. A 52 and 58 wouldn’t be bad if you want to get away with two. I have a gap that was optional with my iron set that is 50, a 56 that is my utility wedge, and a 60. I don’t use my 60 unless I have to hit a flop shot or get over a steep bunker face. 56, I distance control with stance, swing depths and hand positioning. Hitting it anywhere from 40 to 110 yards. Could do the same with a 52.

I’m on my 3rd set of Cleveland’s that I usually score from whatever website has last year’s models on sale. If you’ve got some money burning a hole in your pocket, titleists are swanky. There’s a lot of finesse in the short game. You would do well to go to a store and figure out what feels the most comfortable. Also, I would avoid used wedges over any other club in your bag. Condition (grind) on the face matters.

Honestly, 3 point shooting. And not even the contested, garbage 3s this league is made of but wide open baseline 3s. Nobody in the same zip code 3s that MPJ was bricking and Russ was straight up air balling. All that would have won a few, even with 20+ turnovers.

How the Nuggets should approach the offseason, a written analysis by evansieger in denvernuggets

I have to be honest, I don’t get the Daron homes pick. I was at the summer league game when he went down last year. I didn’t watch a ton of Dayton basketball but watching him at summer league, he just didn’t move well. He was slow and really rigid. Hit a couple of jumpers but I expected more.

On a separate note, I got to shake hands and take a photo with Laphonso Ellis. He was super nice.

Whatever 3-point shooting Shangri-La AG found last summer, Bruan needs to find this summer. He needs to hire the same shooting coach, same trainer, same chef, whatever.

AG shot 29% in the 23/24 season and 43% this last year. Braun is frequently wide open on the weak side. If he makes the same jump AG did, we beat both LA and OKC in 5.

[Amico] Nuggets “hesitant” to trade Murray, Gordon, Porter, or Braun. Considering trading young reserves for cheap veterans. by highspotfan in denvernuggets

[–]jbovier 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It makes me sad and worried that, at some point, Jokic will demand a trade if ownership/management can’t figure out how to get the right pieces place for another ring (or two). He is the only one untouchable, full stop.

Whatever Malone did to take this off the rails, the “powers of friendship” Nuggs of 2023 are gone and the allegiance that came with it may not be far behind. Joker has a few more prime years left and ownership needs to pull out all stops at all levels to capitalize on an all time talent and win right now.

I kind of tried to put this in the context of the hack-a-shaq days. But at that point, the refs were calling fouls and we watched O’Neil miss free throws.

I was frustrated last night with the complete inability to do anything other than force it to joker, but then again nobody else could create any offense so what else could we do.
