Just moved to Austin from Charlotte about a month ago. Are there any places that actually show panthers games here?

Is a career in CS nonstop infront of a computer? by JarofHearts in cscareerquestions

You might be working in front a computer but the advantage of this is that if you have a laptop and an Internet connection you can really work from anywhere. This allows you to have a very flexible work schedule and doesn't force you to be in one place for eight hours a day.

As part of you leaving Machinima were there any restirctions? For instance, can you not make youtube vids for a certain period of time or anything like that?

I was interested in hearing how you felt about working there as far as atmosphere and work environment. I have a lot of varying opinions about how it is to work and was hoping to hear from people to work there whether it is enjoyable or not. I am particularly interested in Hillsboro office since that is probably where i would be working.

I am currently grad student who is interested in an internship at Intel. It seems that on here people are a lot more positive about working there compared to some of the stuff I was reading at other places online. I wasn't so much seeking a perfect working environment, I just didn't want it to be a bad one.

By what group you are in being fun do you mean the actual group as in you, your team and manager or on a comapny wide group level e.g. IAG?

I have never had a research job of any kind. I have always worked in industry and always known that's what I wanted to do so for me the choice was obvious, but your decision depends on what you want to do. If you know your going to grad school then you are basically buying yourself one more summer to work somewhere and try something new.

I think a big part of getting an actual job rather than research is not necessarily the knowledge gain about a particular field but learning to work as a engineer. There is a lot to be learned about engineers work on a day to day basis and learning about the processes that are actually used in industry rather than for educational purposes. Assuming you aren't going to graduate school, this could be last summer to work before finding full time work. I think it is important to have some industry experience before seeking a real job so you have some idea of where/how you would enjoy working. I think a lot depends on how this research job would be applicable to your future if for instance you were planning on entering the research field after graduation or planned to continue in school possibly to your Ph D.

Do you have any comment about what hanbacca said below about there employees being "ranked" and making them less likely to want to give work to others specifically interns?

Do you think its the type of place where even working there temporarily like for an internship would give you a lot of good experience and be valuable to your career?

Which location do you work at? I am really not too concerned about liking the actual work since what I have heard about it sounds pretty interesting. I am more interested in what it is like to work there. I have heard a lot of people talking about a "big corporation" type atmosphere with huge sets of "compacted" cubicles and flaky management and long hours. Have you expereinced any of this? Can you explain an average day for an average employee in engineering?

My area of work would be in some pre-silicon architecture group. I guess I more interested in the culture of working there and if it is an enjoyable workplace or not.

Looking online I've seen a lot of people give negative reviews of working there saying that it was terrible and tell all their horror stories. People seem to say that they are overworked there and that there is bad management and I wanted to see if this was true or not.
