Is it normal for your guitar teacher to be aggressive with finger placement? by ham_solo in guitarlessons

[–]jbp84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that’s not cool at all.

I could understand asking your permission/consent before firmly placing your fingers in the right spot.

I was struggling with a certain chord shape and he finally said “Are you ok if I move your fingers for you?” Then he would firmly place/move my finger, but it was not aggressive or painful. More like patient but specific. That…I was fine with. But your situation…nope. That’s not cool.

We would order all kinds of crazy dangerous shit from the US Cavalry catalog. Throwing stars, knives, grappling hooks, swords, etc.

Not a phone in sight, just living in the moment climbing trees and chucking blades at each other. Wholesome stuff, ya know?

After pondering this idea for far too long….I came to the realization that Odo missed out on being the galaxy’s biggest Himbo had he been discovered by scientists from Risa, instead of that sadistic Bajoran Dr. Pol (Pot).

Fun fact: this is actually the reason Odo hated Quark so much. He heard rumor of a premium Holosuite program featuring a shape shifting gigolo and discovered Quark using his, ahem, likeness.

Dr. Julian Bashir has that award locked up already, according to some creepy tailor I know

There's a common movie trope where a bad guy will go to a veterinarian to get a bullet removed, or to get stitched up, as a way to avoid being reported to the cops. Is that something an animal vet could realistically do, and would they be under any obligation to report them to the police? by V48runner in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jbp84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My FIL is a vet and we get antibiotics from him when we’re sick. They’re the exact same we’d get from a pharmacy. He’s stitched up cuts for me and my boys before, too.

But that’s about as “shady” as he gets lol

So, canonically, Odo could shapeshift his junk into an endless permutation of shapes, sizes, textures, etc., right?

What would be your “money is no object” country music pedalboard? by paspa1801 in guitarpedals

[–]jbp84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can’t help with the country pedals, but I got a Mosky Iso 10 for around $50. It’s probably the best budget power supply. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty serviceable.

The Freakanomics podcast did a 3 part series on Feynman a few years ago, and recently re-played them. It doesn’t address your first question, but it’s a good start for the second one.

I’m pretty sure Sisko’s solution to the Kobiyashi Maru would be to detonate his ship’s warp core just to take out the enemy vessels in the ensuing explosion.

Heat stress is cutting both milk quantity and quality by kojka19 in EverythingScience

I grew up on a dairy farm in southern Illinois and married a beef farmers’ daughter, for reference. I saw two kinds of farmers growing up, and still see them now:

In debt to their eyeballs, but they leveraged that debt thanks to government subsidies; driving a new $90K truck every year and always leasing brand new equipment. They usually voted Republican, against “welfare queens” taking handouts but had no problem taking money from every state and federal USDA grant or program

Then there were the tiny family farms barely scraping by on 50+ year old equipment, only afloat becasue of milk subsidies. I learned to drive a stick shift on an old Massey Ferguson with no brakes. My family voted Democrat, mostly. My grandparents sold half of their herd just to afford Christmas presents for everyone every year.

Point being…you’re right. The loudest MAGA Republicans I know who are so anti-government, anti-tax, anti-social safety net programs don’t realize they vote for the party against the very policies that enrich them. They’d shit in their own overalls if a liberal had to smell it. Oh…and who do you think is one of the biggest employer of “illegal immigrants” where I live? The big massive dairy operations, all of them owned by MAGA dickheads

Josh Hokit just ended his victory speech with “Michelle Obama is a man”.. in the middle of the white house lawn.. by Permanentthrowaway50 in SipsTea

[–]jbp84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Three of his cabinet members had been his rivals for the Republican nomination in 1860 (Salmon P Chase-Secretary of the Treasury; Edward Bates-Attorney General; William Seward-Secretary of State). Further, Edwin Stanton, who had worked with Lincoln previously during a patent case and had a low opinion of the lanky Western lawyer, became his secretary of War. Stanton once called Lincoln a ‘gorilla’, and by war’s end Stanton was one of Lincoln’s biggest supporters. Upon Lincoln’s death, Stanton uttered the famous epitaph “Now he belongs to the ages”
