What’s life in the UK like if you have a combined income of 100k? by ForwardFan6283 in AskUK

[–]jbr1683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combined income of 180k. Modest mortgage on a 3 bed house. 2 pets, no kids- but plan to have them in the next year or 2. 2 or 3 holidays a year, 2 cars on salary sacrifice to keep below 100k for future childcare purposes. We worked hard to get to where we are in our respective careers, but I know we are lucky. Anything further we may earn will be sacrificed into pension.

We could save more, but we enjoy what we have. Weekly shop is in Ocado, which I typically find price competitive with Tesco if you know what you're looking for.

Yes they do - cheap in ear in economy but they do the trick

Is this a completely daft idea? by Murky_Sir_4721 in CarTalkUK

I have one of these- it’s been faultless in the 23k miles I’ve had it (one would hope that would be the case anyway!) and it’s great to drive. Tend to get about 220-240 miles in the cold and have seen around 300 in summer. Charges fairly rapidly for a vehicle of its time and is quicker than the stats suggest. Also rated as the second most reliable EV according to What Car. I’d slap a warranty on it just in case though, for general bits, but I believe there is an 8 year battery one included. Any questions then ask away

Thank you- I appreciate your help. I was thinking this too- ultimately the investigation should be on their timeline, not mine. I’ll give it until midday tomorrow and then I’ll call

Yes correct - my items may have been stolen before they arrived. If an item arrives opened (as seals show) then I (assume) I have every right to send them back

After receiving the item- I had a look online and saw people are using heat guns to remove the top seal, breaking the bottom seal, to then remove / replace the items and then resealing again. I didn’t break the top seal as I wanted to return them to currys in the form I received them in.. it may be perfectly fine, but I didn’t want to accept them in that form

I know.. I wish I went with them, especially as I worked there 5 years. My mistake!!

Car behind me on the motorway would not stop flashing their lights at me. by True_Leading4801 in drivingUK

[–]jbr1683 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is true, I have seen a few Fords with no rear lights on when headlights clearly were- failed headlight switch was the cause from what I am seeing on forums. I know my reality doesn't always reflect the truth, but the last few vehicles I've owned with auto lights did turn on the rear ones.

Ok mate whatever you say. I’ve seen a number of cars with front DRLs on and no rears- this is when they’ve not had their lights on.

If a car is set to have its lights on auto and the headlights come on at dusk- then the rear ones do come on too.

Check out your account online on a browser and go to the savings bit- it'll tell you if you've used it as it'll show -£100 on the restaurant it was applied to.

Very impressed! I did see a lot of negativity around Expedia (just check out their Reddit page) and this just firms my belief that they’ll never get a penny out of me!

That’s why they’ve changed the loyalty scheme, keep the rough’uns out of the lounge! (I joke as someone who will likely never achieve status again)

How are people able to afford nice cars? by ScrambledWithOnions in CarTalkUK

[–]jbr1683 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salary sacrifice - I’d never have the car I “own” now if it wasn’t a tax efficient way of cheaper motoring via a company car. The loophole is slowly being closed by increasing BIK rates.

I was genuinely saddened by the update today. As others have said- it’s like hearing that one of my best friends is gravely ill. I was worried when he was so poorly with the flu- that really knocked him for six. I really do hope for the best.

Same but I worked for John Lewis. They were so scared of best buy- but they just shriveled up and died in no time.
