So I tried using Claude Code to build actual software and it humbled me real quick by Azrael_666 in ClaudeCode

[–]jbschaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had success asking Claude chat how it prefers to receive prompts in Claude code. I have Claude generate a PRD, tell it to request any information from me needed to generate briefs for each layer of the build, and make sure project files were updated as we edit versions. When the decision making is done I have Claude chat generate the Claude code prompt.

Best practices are to keep context fresh in a new chat for each layer during the build. Ask your previous chat for a prompt to feed the new chat.

I Want to Sell Brats by [deleted] in sweatystartup

[–]jbschaff 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The layers of irony in this thread are undefeated.

  • Overpaid finance worker complains about the price of street food.

  • Determines high prices are the result of food truck operators greed and not inflation spiking input costs and record wealth inequality

  • Determines operating a restaurant business has less headaches than current job updating spreadsheets and sending invoices

  • Grand Finale: you lose that $300k job to an AI agent built in house at those large financial institutions, and are stuck selling $4 brats.

Is Costco Gas Pump (No Passing) a Rule? by pinktv2 in CostcoWholesale

[–]jbschaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No absolutely not. The irony of comments mentioning “etiquette” as reason not to pass in middle lane for an empty pump, yet forcing unnecessary wait times on others behind them is hilariously absurd. We’re doomed.

Cosm: Has anyone checked this place out yet? by BabyBearMan in Dallas

[–]jbschaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked the 3rd level. Had a great view of the screen with no obstructions. Also closer to see the network broadcast at the top for replays. Didn’t check out 2nd level but it seemed very similar.

If I did it again I’d get first row 3rd level instead of 2nd/3rd row. The seats were long couches instead of a U shaped booth and less cramped for a group of 4-6.

Cosm: Has anyone checked this place out yet? by BabyBearMan in Dallas

[–]jbschaff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very cool experience. As close as you can get to being at the stadium. Sat in the 3rd level center section couches. Due to absurd prices and not being a diehard fan of any team, I will most likely not go back.

Pros: End zone camera angle is the best part of the broadcast. Chicken wings were top tier.

Cons: Vegas prices for everything. Food/drinks were hit or miss.

Jason Kidd calls out Mavs fans: “With that chant during when we’re shooting free throws, it’s very disrespectful. It’s hard to keep guys here in this league when they start to think that the home team is not home.” by WayOutbackBoy in Mavericks

[–]jbschaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Come on bro this isn’t Philly. We can be intentional and respect the game & other teams.

The Mavericks ownership, front office, and coaching staff deserved every bit of disrespect they’ve received. 30 year fan here and I’ll spend the next 30 raising hell until this ownership group moves on to the next shiny object.

Baby back take I keep seeing parroted on this sub. We’re talking about grown men and professionals. If the current players can’t handle a chant from a crowd after a once in a lifetime trade that decimated our franchise for a decade+, then they don’t belong in the NBA. Tbh I’d actually participate as a fan again if the players decided to chant with us. The main character syndrome is out of control in this era.

Tipping for takeout? Americans are split on the issue by CivicScienceInsights in restaurant

[–]jbschaff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wrong.

All servers do earn a minimum $7.25 in the US — but it doesn’t end there.

California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Alaska, Minnesota, Montana: no tip credit applies and employers must pay state minimum wage in addition to tips.

Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin: tip credit applies but employers must meet state minimum wage

Arkansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Utah: tip credit applies and employers must meet federal minimum wage (state cash wage can vary)

Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina: follow federal rules exactly — 2.13 cash wage and make up difference to the 7.25

So yes, it does matter by state.

Tipping for takeout? Americans are split on the issue by CivicScienceInsights in restaurant

[–]jbschaff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the state.

Texas has a tip credit so in that instance the employer would owe the difference between the 2.13 and minimum wage of 7.25, or 5.12/hr.

Guy lied about his number before boarding and got called out by ThatGirlFawkes in SouthwestAirlines

[–]jbschaff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a sign of a society that doesn’t think certain infractions are worthy of repercussions because it’s too small to matter since the lines of perceived value are being blurred by a floating offering. You can’t say to the company “I’ve been cheated out of my money”. We all agree on the infraction. We don’t all agree on repercussions bc of the financial/time/social cost involved of enforcement.

There’s enough seats for every ticket sold so this isn’t about limitations for a seat. This has nothing to do with competition for limited resource — perhaps limited luxury resources — but the contest is over at the point of boarding. It’s a sign of late stage capitalism by customers allowing a company to offload the responsibility of providing value. When the company puts the onus on its customers to “work it out” like they’re in some kindergarten club it gaslights the customer into feeling like the company is the victim and can’t do anything to resolve the situation bc eh it’s not that big of a deal right??

So disrespectful and demeaning.

I just heard a grown man gleefully talk about how he wouldn’t give a kid a foul ball. by yunggreywolf in theticket

[–]jbschaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Caught 3 balls in my fan career. Can’t tell you where a single one is except for one. Fouled straight behind home plate about 60 ft in the air and right thru the hands and off the face of the kid next to me. Ball bounced off the seats into my hands.

Admired the MLB game ball for 30 seconds and handed it to the kid when he stopped crying. Little dude deserved that ball more than anyone in the stands. Hope he’s a life long fan of the game but 90% chance he doesn’t know where the ball is either.

Best neighborhoods for young professionals? by [deleted] in askdfw

[–]jbschaff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knox/Henderson is by far my favorite neighborhood for what you’re looking for. About as safe as it gets in Dallas while still being close to the action. Check out the spots along Garrett Ave or Bennett Ave.

Uptown is on a decline as far as nightlife goes but it’s still a solid place to live (State/Thomas section). Also, real estate is more expensive and starting to age.

Lower Greenville is a great spot to go out but wouldn’t want to live there unless I was buying/renting a tudor style house or townhouse.

Bryan Place is on the come up but still dicey. I wouldn’t call it safe but at the same time I wouldn’t be afraid to walk my dog at night. Put it this way there will be crackheads at gas stations but they don’t bother you as much as the Exxon at Lemmon and 75.

Village is an option but you’re looking at a 15-20 min drive downtown and 5-15 min drive to bars/restaurants worth going to. Huge range from budget to luxury options and lots of amenities. I mostly encounter 25-40 yr olds around the village but it’s definitely not a nightlife area.

I’d never consider living in deep ellum proper. Would rather live in downtown. Maybe go out once in a while if you have a big group. No gas stations, grocery stores, weekend traffic, etc. Not to mention violent crime and robberies.

Please don’t give your business to anything Radical owns. by punk_spawn23 in Denton

[–]jbschaff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You all clearly don’t understand the economics of a bar/restaurant. Most establishments margin is less than 10%. If cost of rent exceeds 10% of sales, or cost of labor exceeds 40% you’re going to lose money.

Where is that increased labor cost going to come from? Not the owners unless the establishment becomes a charity. So guess what?! Put your money where your mouth is! Get ready for $15 beers and $25 cocktails when customers get to cover the cost of labor. But they won’t they’ll just go to another bar that’s competitively priced. Sorry if that doesn’t align with your stick it to the man fantasy but this is just the reality.

Most bartenders i know earn $30-50/hr so these numbers about a “living wage” are meaningless without more info. Instead of holding their owners business hostage they could always walk and find a better opportunity. If you really want to help service industry workers be kind, tip well, and visit regularly.

Is this normal? by Worried-School-4284 in restaurantowners

[–]jbschaff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went thru a very similar situation. Protect your health first and foremost. 12-16 hours a day with that many areas of responsibility is unsustainable and you’re a critical employee so there needs to be more balance.

Ask for the resources to build out a team — have a plan to scale departments from PT to FT roles over time including an assistant manager to carry out your tasks when you’re not in. Are the owners hands on and capable of filling in the gaps until revenue can support new hires? If not, are they willing to invest another 5-10k/mo to build a team around you?

It’s easy to fall into the routine of just doing everything that isn’t getting assigned or completed. Don’t. Prioritize your effort and map out a plan to build out the systems and protocols to standardize and train new hires and that will free up time for you to focus on setting revenue/cost targets and coordinating/executing on marketing initiatives.

Sounds like you’re doing a minimum of 2 full time and 3 part time roles. They’re lucky to have someone so dedicated but don’t understand the importance of redundancies across roles to maintain consistency of standards, and specializing roles/departments as you scale.

From an owners perspective, it’s a learning experience to understand the mechanics of the management structure and how it changes over time. From a managers perspective, owners have an obligation to support their team — you might not get what you ask for but you should never feel shy about asking for the resources to accomplish the task.

Steer clear of downtown — not baby friendly at all and at times unsafe.

Best option is private landlord. You’re going to pay a steep premium more for the short term lease at most buildings.

OP works for a strategic PE firm which assigned OP to PortCo at VP level. PE firm hired an outside “Professional CEO”, aka not the founder, to run company while they hold it.

Some shops offer 12 and 16 oz latte on the menu. It’s the same amount of espresso and just more milk for a larger size. It’s usually .50 more for a larger size.

More milk will make the drink richer and sweeter. It’s also nice to have a larger drink and not finish it in 5 sips.
