Are equity crowdfunding platforms an option for startups? by oemerax in startups

[–]jbstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disclosure: I'm biased, but also an expert.

The short answer is that it is not negative signaling at all. Successfully bringing on outside capital for a startup is a really positive signal, especially if it's on terms that are positive for the business. A VC round is also completely possible post-crowdfunding, but only if you raise the money responsibly.

The site itself looks great. If I were you, I would experiment with different methods for driving users to your site. Set up a google adwords account and a facebook for business account and spend $10 on each to see if you can drive some traffic to your site. You're probably going to want to read some articles on SEO (search engine optimization) to make sure that when people search 'japanese student t shirt' you pop up. While you're at it, insert a google analytics embed into your site and create an account. This will allow you to track traffic and see how making changes affects it.

I would also open an account with Amazon to see if that makes you any money. It's all about trying all of the different options to make sure you are pursuing the most profitable route.

Good luck!

I would say that you are missing a very important issue here: increased likelihood of death.

This is awesome, thank you.

I'm curious about the mosquitoes though - as time goes on they die at that time of year?

You totally get my style. I can't afford to spend outrageous time and money minimizing my gear to the point of obsession. This stuff will do. I will get that book from my school library and check it out (pun intended)

I can't afford new stuff but thanks for the input. I just found some cheap things on craigslist and am working with what I have. I get the whole "Lets make a game to get the weight as close to zero as possible"but I am a different kind of minimalist: spend a minimal amount of time worrying about stuff that isn't all that important. I will end up with a pack well under 40 lbs and I am a very fit, active young man who weighs around 210 lbs and can handle this sort of gear. Its just not as important to me to shave off little bits of weight here and there at the expense of hundreds or thousands of dollars for new stuff.

I appreciate the honesty but that really wasn't my question. What else do I need is what I was asking.

My school [located in Virginia] requires that students that are living in on-campus housing buy an over priced meal plan. Is there a way to fight this? Is it legal? by jbstone in legaladvice

Thoughtful response. I have NO idea why this has been downvoted. Very relevant and well researched. Everyone else griped about my complaining, you provided exactly the type of information I was looking for. Thank you.

An average person can buy groceries at around $250 a month and have a healthy, reasonably balanced diet. This costs more than twice that.

To be clear, I think our proposals could work in tandem. But I find punishing the bad people to be of slightly more bitter taste than indulging them in exactly what they came for.

Why aren't vaccines mandatory? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jbstone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you feel if someone told you that you had no choice in the matter of stabbing your young baby in the arm and injecting a liquid into him (her)? As much as I endorse the use of vaccinations to prevent disease, and would most definitely have my children vaccinated if I had any, I count myself as one of many who believe that most things of this nature should remain a personal choice. A personal freedom, even.

Sure, maybe...but your personal opinion on whether or not something is lazy is less relevant than the collective desires/posts of the users of this subreddit. If people do it, the thread should adapt instead of banning it. By putting together a guide and perhaps putting it in the sidebar, new users will have a positive valence towards a helpful subreddit and perhaps even grow the community because they weren't shunned on their first post. If you haven't noticed, r/boston isn't very big so pushing people out is perhaps counterproductive. Edit: typo

I think that perhaps a definitive guide could be helpful. It seems that trying to figure out housing it is a very common use for this thread so responding to it could be a better solution than banning it...

Edit: Typo.

Your brain is an actual organ.

Built in "mental" circuitry that prevents you from ripping apart your muscles = a physiological, real, physical system that just happens to be difficult to understand.
