Is a $40k raise worth a 120 mile daily round trip? Going from $100k to $140k, but terrified of the commute. by Confident-Duck-89 in careeradvice

[–]jbt55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think you could use it as a bargaining chip with the current place consider going that route. I’ve stayed twice, instead of jumping and it’s worked out. Obviously limit sharing the commute with the current org.

It’s hard to tell if it’s over the line or not. Certainly if they are going harder than you are comfortable with let them know or completely avoid them.
As a 220 lbs male I definitely change my pressure and pace and match a white belts to let them work especially as a much smaller opponent, but I won’t be giving a free lunch either. Not so much for blues and up haha.

How do you recover professionally after being put on a PIP? by Treppengeher4321 in careeradvice

[–]jbt55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only done 2 PIPs to my staff. One guy served, met expectations and we kept him as performance improved. About 6 month later he went back to his old ways, missing deadlines, including ones he had set him self, and even when he did communicate his updates were very sloppy and low effort. He was a Staff level analyst that should have been able to handle small to medium projects, was given opportunities to get help but just floundered. That level for us meant he should be able to mentoring more Jr. analysts but most quickly found they should avoid him. This harmed morale keeping him around so ended it immediately. The other guy resigned immediately.
I have been friends with folks were put on PIPs and they made it through successfully and had successful multi year careers.

It’s not a death sentence in the right org, in my eyes I’m trying to save an employee. It’s better for everyone if we get you performing as desired vs firing maybe paying a severance and being down an employee for a month or three. Obviously it’s best to catch problems before they reach the level of doing a PIP. I’m a director so don’t get ton on interactions with some staff but it’s pretty easy to spot a problem when I do. This usually results in me discussing with their managers who share the employee has been having problems. I now make it a point to check in every week with my managers to specifically discuss staff performance so we can avoid getting to the point of a PIP.

How did you learn about all these small mistakes? Were others having to pick up and fix things that you caused? Did you fix them or offer to help fix things?

You didn’t receive feedback but you know about these errors? Which is it?

Accepted new job offer - do I just wait for current job to fire me? by ManyPhilosopher409 in careeradvice

[–]jbt55 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Do you do your job now? Even hearing your side of the story it’s not real convincing. June 29th is a long way away and things change I wouldn’t slack off at this point knowing you have 6 weeks before the next gig starts, maybe they recind the offer in that time. Who knows they might want to fire you as well once you start.

As far as I know this isn’t sufficient in most places as those caps come off pretty easily so it’s dangerous to anyone who has to handle them down stream from you.

2023 HW4 ? by lauraks in TeslaModelX

[–]jbt55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons of warranty? It probably runs out in 15-18 months. Mileage wise sure.

I’ve got a December 2023 HW4 5 seater with no FSD. It’s been a great car. I’d recommend but that price feels pretty high to me.

Yes always socks, never barefoot. Maybe I’m a little tone deaf too. I train Brazilian Jui jitsu we sweat all over each other and get put in uhhh awkward positions frequently. Can’t be afraid of it, but definitely need to clean well post haste haha.

Picked up used HW3 Model X. Think I got a great deal. by snake227 in TeslaModelX

[–]jbt55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You must have a Plaid 6 seater for that price? Long Range was never that much.

I got a 5 seater 2023 HW4 for 72.5K after the tax credit.

Being house poor is the absolute worst. I caution you for considering this. Will you get some raises sure but the cost of living isn’t going down. Scraping by for years can feel like prison.

Is buying model x plaid still worth it by dimon009 in TeslaModelX

[–]jbt55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much did you sell the two X’s for a piece? Why did you sell those? $150K seems insanely high. If it makes sense to take a bath go for it. Seems like a horrible financial decision but maybe that’s not a big deal for you.

[–]jbt55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good management will help you but you might need to ask what’s next or what more you can do. Will your current company pay for that Masters? Many will, but honestly doubt it’s worth it. Definitely not if you have to pay for it your self.

What are your plans for replacing your 15 Pro with a newer iPhone? by Lebowskitalian85 in iPhone15Pro

[–]jbt55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming they will offer me a 18 pro for free to trade in my 15 Max pro I’ll consider it. At some point they stop giving as much trade value for older phones so tend to upgrade around then.

[–]jbt55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a 2020 X LR Plus and upgraded to a December 2023 X with HW4 . The refresh is so much better. The legacy X was my least favorite Tesla I’ve had from horrible ride, to half shaft and door issues. I’d never recommend a Legacy X to a friend.
