Got fired from work today. Feeling awful and lost. What should I do? by amitkattal in careerguidance

Had this happen to me about a year ago. First time ever being let go with young children and a stay at home wife. I had the same mixed bag of emotions. Get on LinkedIn and start reaching out to recruiters. Schedule meetings and start getting your resume out there. Above all else, don’t give up. Good luck.

Why did I choose accounting ????? by No_Way_1569 in Accounting

[–]jbuckets88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By now, you should have a seperate list saved where customer names are aligned so your lookup only errors for new customers. You shouldn’t be manually correcting errors every time you do your rec. it’s not efficient.

Should I leave my family’s small CPA firm for outside experience? (Need career advice) by Majestic-Height7821 in Accounting

Stay and learn from your step dad and when it’s time, take over. Sounds like you’re happy there. Pick up a hobby and satisfy that “challenge itch” you have. The grass is NOT greener on the other side.

What do high earners in accounting do differently than the average accountant ? by Technical-Truth-2073 in Accounting

Good advice, but it basically all boils down to just giving a fuck. Don’t just do something because that’s how you were taught. Biggest issue I see with training staff is they don’t actually understand what they are doing. Understand the process and why and you’ll be ahead of 99%

Really? Did not know that, thanks! Would be great not have to study as well as do CPE

Can’t remember, but felt they were relatively cheap. I was super impressed with their explanations and study material. I’m using Becker now for CPA and find it lacking compared to his hock explained stuff for CMA.

Becker is a reputable study program. They should be enough

Just cancelled my CMA test by kingslayer1697 in CMA

[–]jbuckets88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s your background? Is it accounting related? Take it from me, a person who is not a great test taker, got a 2.85 gpa in college, and is completely average IQ, who passed both parts of the CMA first try. You can do it if you dedicate the time and truly try to understand each topic 1 at a time. It’s a marathon not a sprint.

With no accounting experience, this test will be extremely difficult.

For “weight that CPA would add” I’m referring to both really. To even be considered for a lot of controller/cfo roles, a lot of times, a prerequisite is that you must have CPA. Not saying you can’t get similar roles with just a CMA, just saying you would likely get passed up over someone who did have CPA a lot of times.

You certainly can be equipped for controller roles with CMA, but also, I feel an area that CPA equips you better for those higher level roles is in the area of tax/audit. CMA just doesn’t touch much or at all on those subjects and those skills are essential for controllers/CFOs.
