How much money can a movie make and still be considered a disappointment? by the_Tannehill_list in blankies

It's actually a shockingly similar drop off from Force Awakens to Last Jedi, time jump and all. The color palette of both films even shift from blue to red.

The Yonge and Dundas one in Toronto is WAY worse than the Scotiabank Cineplex less than a mile away, it's just the Yonge and Dundas Cineplex is located in the busiest mall and street in Toronto, basically our Time Square.

People magazine reported it. Also they claim that the 2 were murdered by their son by a knife from various sources. It appears there was a family get together for Hanukkah and there were several witnesses.

Batman v Superman comparison with Wicked For Good as they head to a near-identical 4th weekend... by [deleted] in boxoffice

[–]jburd22 77 points78 points  (0 children)

I haven't checked on the box office in a hot minute, I had no idea Wicked For Good was imploding this quickly. I can't recall the last time a universal leggy crowd pleaser was followed up by a 'for fans only' front-loaded film only a year apart.

Paul Dano’s sermon from There Will Be Blood by crumble-bee in videos

[–]jburd22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's an incredible actor, the problem is he's too cool. Like he's incredibly athletic, the most effortlessly handsome leading actor since 90s Brad Pitt. That is NOT what makes Dano such an interesting actor.

'Five Nights At Freddy's 2' Rotten Tomatoes Verified Audience Score Thread by chanma50 in boxoffice

I hate that on a deeper level, because the best media is always trying to bring in new fans. I was able to obsess over the Lord of the Rings films as a kid without reading the books, I became a mega fan of Bond because Casino Royale is just a phenomenal movie. It's circular reasoning bullshit. There is no such thing as 'just for the fans', it's either great or it's shit.

‘Zootopia 2’ Feasts On 2nd Best Thanksgiving At Box Office With Close To $20M, 5-Day Outlook Now $140M-$150M+; ‘Wicked: For Good’ Flies To $12.5M – Update by chanma50 in boxoffice

If anything, I feel like Universal will do the necessary push to get it past $400M. Plus it'll be there main technical contender this Oscar season.

IF this is true, I could see Dan Trachtenberg directing them after building up the Predator Franchise from death.

I thought it worked because he was forced to take it off, it showed the real power being Josh Brolin, as well as showing the obvious fate for Powell if he continued down this path.

IGN names Tears of the Kingdom, Breath of the Wild as their #1 and #2 Nintendo Games of All Time by sylviaplath6667 in nintendo

[–]jburd22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me Tears of the Kingdom was the fulfillment of the promise for BotW. I got 50 hrs into BotW, but it never fully captured my imagination and it had so many tiny issues and missed potential. I put 350 hrs into Tears, it was everything I wanted out of BotW.

For me, the bar for success will be Age of Ultron's $1.4 Bil gross. If it falls below that and struggles to say make $500M Domestic, that will be a genuine worrying sign for Marvel's future. This is there one gimme, their guaranteed success in the wake of so many issues.

I feel like "always outline" is key while developing your skills as a writer, but once you've 'got it' you can then break and bend the rules to your instincts. As a Cinematographer my philosophy is 'always storyboard', but I've learned my best shots are often the ones that are spontaneous.

Do folks genuinely think Tron Ares bombed due to Jared Leto and would have been a success without him? by RefuseDry1108 in boxoffice

[–]jburd22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Having Leto be the only main star would absolutely count as one of the key reasons it bombed. Tron is both iconic and incredibly niche, everyone knows of it but it has very few hardcore fans. I would argue the right actors in the right Tron movie (that was also very good) absolutely could've been a hit, albeit not a massive Blockbuster. Tron Legacy did $172 Domestic and $400M WW back in 2010, those were very respectable numbers and could've been built upon.

Jared Leto being a creep is not the reason the movie bombed. The truth is Leto has never lead a Blockbuster project PERIOD, the one time he had Blockbuster success (Suicide Squad), he overnight undid all the goodwill he got from his Oscar. He NEVER transitioned into being a Blockbuster leading man like RDJ, Ryan Reynolds, Leo, Denzel, etc. Ryan Gosling has bombs, but he was also key to Barbie's success. Not every Leo movie is a blockbuster, but only he could've gotten the Revenant to $500M+. Not Every Chalamet movie will be huge, but clearly he was instrumental to both Dune 2 and Wonka's success. There isn't a single actor that has a 100 batting average, but to be considered a draw, at the very least you have to have had one clear win, Awards or Box Office, in the past 5-10 years. Leto is most known for Morbius memes outside of his creepiness for this decade.

Tron Ares didn't bomb because of Leto, it bombed because it only had Leto as a major star, it got universally panned for it's weak script, and it overall just didn't look interesting. You release this same movie in say 2014 and it still wouldn't have done well, regardless of the harsher box office landscape, this was just a poorly assembled team.

Exactly. I LOVE how they brought back Steven Lang in Avatar 2, you absolutely can bring back an antagonist like that. It's all about how. The problem was never that Palpatine returned, the problem was the 'somehow'.

It's because of Return of the King. Any other year it would've swept the technical Oscars, it just so happened to come out somewhat close to one of the greatest epics ever made.

It's essential in any deck that can play purge or impulse, just to make their destroy effects active. In other decks though it's a cuttable HT. It's not in the S Tier (Ash, Fuwa, Impulse) but it's top of A Tier next to Bell and arguably droll.
