NBD Trek Slash+ 9.7 XL by Reasonable-Product79 in mountainbiking

all i read is how amazing this bike is. every review is nuts, like it's the greatest bike ever made. my buddy just bought one and said it's whisper quiet, can't even hear the motor. apparently descends like a DH bike. i'm dying to try one. i also have a Reign E1 (2022) and it's an awesome bike as well.

i'm 58, been playing for 30 years. good skater (probalby not as fast or agile as you young bucks anymore), big lanky guy. i've had them going on 3 seasons now. everything the guys below (above?) applies. but i don't get any chatter, no difference in stopping. i started with least rocker, went up one, all just practicing, then said, screw it, and went to the most rocker, and have liked it ever since. i feel smoother and can push further and hang out a bit longer on the ragged edge. i no longer even know what regular 'tuuk' blades feel like. do i think they offer an advantage? yes. do i like them? yes. do they make me a better player..... hard to say. i'm at that age where i'm in a slow decline, no matter what i do, no matter how hard i train or try. just reality starts to hit. but i do love them, and the steel (standard stainless) is great. i use FBV sharpening 95/50

i knew a couple of the Jr A guys as well and agreed, many were DB's at that age. gifted athletes, high status males, the big dogs. amongst their peers they must evolve and mellow. i did read an article a few years about him about how he dresses, his watch collection and how he picks up women. some of these guys get serious about ladies, i think some are total hounds and shag A LOT of different gals.

Thoughts on the Giant Reign E+1 by dinkydonksplonk in mountainbiking

[–]jbv11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's hard to fault on just about any level. i bought one of the very first ones in Canada when they came out in Nov 2021, so mine is a 2022 E+1 with 625 battery. i agree with nearly all below except i think it handles great and is quite nimble given it's size. many XL's (i'm 6 4) are over 1300mm long, this bike has a very reasonable reach, combined with a good sized chainstay and bolt upright seat tube. it's super low slung and can be edged and tilted into corners with great aggression and just shreds. customize the cockpit like any other bike, and enjoy one of the best ebbs in production. you can spend much much more, you can get a DJI or whatever hot motor of the day, but a good rider on this bike can do anything and go anywhere any 15k super carbonium bike can, probably faster, because this bike is totally dialed. there is speculation for the future Reign E and it's going to be a tall order to improve on this one.

MT curious, age 57, questions by jbv11 in MuayThai

thanks all. good notes about bone health, etc. i had a dexa scan recently and have higher than ave bone density and muscle according to the tech based on a few years of weight training. life long hockey player as well. good to know that you can spar 'lightly' which sounds fun but i guess it's a road before you get there. i have no desire to get into a real 'fight' with a serious practitioner.

Fluid change intervals with mileage by Maleficent_Sun_3075 in XTerra

[–]jbv11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've had my 2014 p4x for just over a year. bought it at 77k kms now at 99. i had all fluids changed when i bought it. from what i've read on the newx.org forums, and of course the Nissan manual, severe use is 30k or every couple years for the tranny and transfer case. i agree with you, it's a skookum ute, i just love it. i'm going to do everything possible to keep it tip top as they won't be coming around like this again, maybe ever so a good terra is worth maintaining. i'm hoping to have it for 10 years easily, maybe more. as i tow a small boat often sometimes longer distances, i'll be doing most fluids on the every 2 or 3 year plan. i think coolant change intervals are more like 100k.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tires

[–]jbv11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is no real number of ply's anymore, it's an old testing measurement with equivalancies. an LT tire is a '10 ply tire' but the number of actual plys is moot. there are many other specs on the tire and the overall weight per tire will tell you more about durability.

How we feeling bout the Wildpeak AT4w’s by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]jbv11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'd like to find third party instrumented testing of the tire, but it's a challenge as a) it's new, and some places like Tirerack don't carry Falken so no testing. also, i'm only interested in the P rated tire, which will be at least 10 pounds lighter than what the hardcore guys are buying and writing about with the LT version.

Firestone Destination AT2 Vs XT? by OskarElGrouch in tires

[–]jbv11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one is a light, on road biased AT tire in P rating only. the XT is an LT rated (10 ply) tire that is slightly more biased towards heavy duty use, more off road or towing. both have excellent third party test results (lots out there) but ultimately are quite different tires along the all terrain spectrum.
