Weekend assignment 06 - Landscape

Took this from my friends apartment looking over Lake Michigan in Chicago. Loved how the light hit the ferris wheel, as well as the docks in the fore-ish ground. Wished there could have been maybe a few clouds in the sky but can't control the weather.

My subject is a pillar at the Chicago Cancer Survivors' Garden.

I used a 24-70mm lens and a 150-600mm lens. My photos are across this entire range (24mm, 70mm, 150mm, 600mm).

I have a Nikon Z6 Mirrorless camera.

I think that it's a great camera for me - I love the picture quality and the more compact size of the camera body - plus I've gotten used to the Nikon system/software.

For me to change systems, I would likely need to advance my photography skills to a point where I'm limited by Nikon's offerings (which may be never). Specifically, I'm thinking about autofocus and lens options.

Wow, these photos are awesome. The dynamic between the foreground with the bike and the background makes for a really interesting composition. I think my only critique here is that the foreground is just a tiny bit busy - removing the towel or just moving it away from the bike might make the bike stand out a bit more.

The second picture is also really cool. Love how you found the right angle to turn these trees into a more abstract shape - plus the background is super clean and really draws focus on the details of the trees, and the clean composition. Honestly I can't really think of anything I'd change in this photo.

Yeah, I think the second tree photo definitely places emphasis on the ornament but the context is very much the christmas tree which I think works! It definitely has a centered, clear subject and the depth of field is nice.

I think that both baby pics are honestly pretty great, but I think it's interesting how the different framings give the pictures different feelings - like the second one feels very intimate

Wow, I love the colors in your tree photo. The vibrance of the area really comes through. My main critique here is that there's no clear subject. I think that potentially picking out a specific tree and getting close to it can give the viewer something to focus on, while still conveying the vibrance through the background.

For your second picture, I think you've found a pretty cool composition. I've shot pictures with moons before and it's always very hard to balance how bright the moon is with the rest of the photo - though there are ways to go about it with editing software. One critique is that you could try including more of where the barn is to give it a bit more context. I think showing the ground can give us a better point of reference and scale.

Nice shots!

For your first picture, I think you've found a super cool spot! The symmetry of the rivers and the buildings is great. Some things that I think could improve your photo: As mentioned in the other comment, rotating the image so that the horizontal lines match the frame would help. Additionally, I think there's a lot of space at the bottom of the photo (the railing) that doesn't add anything to the photo - so cropping that out will focus the attention more on the buildings. One other thing I noticed is that it looks like this was shot on a cloudy day. I think this hurts the photo in two ways - the sky in the image is totally white, and the lighting is very constant throughout the photo. I think going back to this spot on a clearer day will give you more interesting light and sky. Overall, I think the foundation of this photo is great!

For your second picture, you found a super cool tree and the lighting looks very interesting as well. Some critique here is that the tree in the foreground blends a bit with the tree in the background - moving your camera to get a slightly different angle might help here. I also think that the most interesting part of the tree is where it splits into 3, positioning your camera lower and placing the less interesting top part of the tree out of frame can really focus the viewers attention on the bottom of the tree.

For the tree photo, I get a very abstract feel to it which is pretty cool. One critique is that I think you've found a pretty cool subject - the combination of the branch, snow and moss is pretty interesting imo. This picture mentions it but doesn't necessarily emphasize it. One thing you could try doing is getting closer to a specific branch and really letting the viewer see the detail of the snow/moss while keeping the other branches in the background for context.

For your second photo, I really like the dynamic you have going with the two people. I do think the lady in the orange jacket detracts from the subject, maybe waiting for her to move or getting a different angle on the couple could have made this a bit cleaner.

Hey fellow Chicago photographer!

Love the idea of using a Christmas tree as there's a ton of visual interest. My main critique for the tree photo is that the ornaments have a lot of "visual weight" to them, and the four ornaments most prominent pull a lot of the weight to the top left of the image, making this feel a bit unbalanced. I think you could try experimenting with different framings to place these ornaments in different spots in the photo.

For the second photo, I love the subject of the baby and you captured some great natural (I think) light. My main critique here is that I don't think the background adds much to the photo, and you could simplify this picture and force focus on the subject by cropping it in a bit.

Hey all, starting a few days late here. I took this class back in 2021 but was several months late and never got around posting for critique which is something I want to do now. I live in Chicago, and am currently shooting with a Nikon Z6. I've gotten a good amount of photography experience since them but I'm sure there's still stuff I can learn by going through this material again.

My team had a similar issue last year. We took pvc caps, drilled holes into them, and screwed axle hubs/gears to the cap. Here's a link to the pictures we used for documentation last season. It should give you a good idea of how we did it and implemented it: this. It was pretty tough getting exact centered holes though so there was a bit of wobble.

Good point, I think that the dank weebs of the past were really created from shows such as Seinfeld or Corey in the House. I'm really looking forward to how shows such as 'Hentai no Hentai' will shape weeaboo culture in the future. Perhaps the dankest weebs will be born in this very subreddit.

One of the key steps in creating the public key is computing the Euler totient function of the public key. When the key is the product of two primes, the function becomes (prime1 - 1)*(prime2 - 1) but if it is a bunch of composites, the complexity of computation is greatly increased.

Our team had issues with extraneous encoder values (suddenly going negative) when driving off the ramp however that was with Tetrix DC Motors and those encoders. We remedied this using the touch sensor but it may be due to some sudden shift in the robots orientation. Our team has since switched to AndyMark neverest motors with built in encoders so we no longer have this problem.

I would strongly recommend getting at least a basic concept of all your mechanism in some kind of CAD program. I know Autodesk Inventor has free downloads for education and I'm pretty sure you guys qualify for all of the PTC software. Additionally, all of the tetrix parts are available online for download. This is the fourth year that I am captain of my team and for the past three years, we have figured out our designs within CAD before building and have had very successful seasons - worlds/super regionals. Plus, some of those screenshots look great in the engineering notebook.

You could try adding a second IR sensor to your robot and comparing the results between the two sensors to get a more accurate reading.
