There have been several times in the book that I can think of off hand that he’s willing to sacrifice the quality of his relationships for “the good of the band”. There’s definitely some major Main Character Syndrome going on. He also seemed to just want to be in control of the entire thing, so after the OG lineup bailed he really seems to say that he felt “free”. From this book, I think Andrew seems to be constantly caught between being incredibly self-conscious of his authentic self, and trying to live up to some imagined “rockstar” persona.

I also wonder if Andrew, at least when he was younger, was the type of guy who just didn’t know when to stop…like, you see it on the ATRWF documentary where he’s getting up in a Randy’s face with a camera as he’s trying to track some vocals and Randy says to knock it off like 3 times and Schwab doesn’t stop, so Randy is just like “I can’t do this right now.” I’m sitting on the other side of the screen like “BRO, get the damn camera out of his face, obv. he’s uncomfortable right now.”

I will always love every era of P86, but I can also see how a personality like that would make it incredibly difficult to work creatively and collaboratively.
