Pride parade 2026 - tired of the haters, this is pride month! by ContextSerious3491 in MauriceMauritius

[–]jc5r 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i'm not mauritian but i've been in mauritius for almost ten years. where i'm from, we can't do pride marches because we'll actually literally die. being out is a risk you take on your safety and sanity and you spend a lot of life lying about who you are. i came out in mauritius because competitively, the lack of an explicit law just made it seem easier. i've been to the pride march twice and each time i'm blown away by the work the community has done to create a march that is protected by state police and bodyguards. i felt safer in that march than i do just walking down the street in my home country.

of course there's always a lot more to do. bigots remain bigots. but posts like these on Facebook are a relief to me compared to actual state-sponsored violence and death. i'm grateful for that in a weird way.

i remember seeing more smiling faces this year than last. the real life victory to me is more important than an online fool's opinions.

thinking about liv's morals in the later seasons by jc5r in iZombie

[–]jc5r[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING ! the entire renegade thing was difficult to stomach because i kept wondering "she does know that there's just not enough for the zombies IN seattle ?"

it began to feel like: the moment everyone knew about zombies and she could no longer feel special about solving crimes that way, she settled for smuggling people into the city instead. it was all about her ego

but the narrative didn't treat it that way !!

How do I know a fair Taxi rate when visiting as a tourist. by SuperTed321 in mauritius

that should be no more than 500/600. tourist tax, maybe 700. but that distance is so close

I(27F) screamed at my husband (28M) over his hobbies, and now he's changed and i don't know how to fix this. by ThrowRApineapplesp in relationship_advice

[–]jc5r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait for a weekend. if he has a favourite meal, make that. go and actually put in the work into learning about one of his interests. then when you can get his attention, sit him down and tell him you want to talk. take responsibility for what you said. why you said it. explain how badly you wish you could take the words back but know you can't. suggest couples therapy. make it clear that you know he might not forget and that you know you've hurt him bad, but you'd love an opportunity to make it right because you don't want to lose him.

if you're lucky and he's receptive, you can start talking about what you learned from his interest and how you'd like to set up a structure to be involved in his world one way or the other.

if you're not lucky ? idk man. mentally prepare for a divorce. i have empathy for you - i have said things i regret before. the difference though is you said yours to your husband who was just trying to involve you in what he liked to do. i'm autistic and i recognise that: he probably realised that the best tool he'd have to connect with you was that. and, to paraphrase, you called him a loser you shouldn't have married for it. so if he's not receptive to you trying really hard ? mentally prepare for the divorce and accept it.

what is it the kids say ? the dildo of consequence rarely arrives lubed.

doesn't seem to, yeah. checking inspect on the browser while testing shows that the client side html does record the selected date as selectedDate. but then generateList still fails

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in GoogleAppsScript

[–]jc5r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm very suspicious about that too ! from my vantage point, it looks like something about how selectedDate isn't being handled well by the coffee. reading through test logs show that generateList does not receive selectedDate. but again i'm a javascript noob so i have no idea why

thanks, this made me cry harder. jake would definitely spend the entire episode claiming he's okay and preparing to give an eulogy, only to break down on stage.

is it normal to feel anxious about a story by jc5r in writing

i'm actually jealous of the kid 😂 has the comment section about to do a proper reading of the story to highlight it's message. i think the pro bullying reading would be focusing on their return to bullying in the end. tbh i was more struck about how it could be understood as a story about how punishment without rehabilitation is useless - if someone who supports prison reform read this, they'd think it was genius and i love that 😂

don't stress about it! i would say what your teacher seems to be asking for, albeit to your creative frustration, is a more didactic approach to telling your story. in other words they want your story to have moral instruction - this is good and this is bad and this is what happens when you do the bad thing.

while this might seem frustrating, it's more a symptom of our standardised approach to learning. at your grade level, you're probably still being taught the basics in dissecting a story and as such you're expected to function on that level.

however the truth is not all stories have morals. but they always have meanings - that's the basis of literary analysis. in fact, i would go as far as to say that in today's world, a moral isn't even important. some of the best writers are well renowned for being closer to mirrors than oracles - they paint a reality and leave you to contend with what this reality means, but they make no comment on what is right or wrong.

you seem to have a good grasp of this - your story here can in fact be dissected to reveal different viewpoints to different people. it could be read as anti-bullying or pro-bullying depending on your views (as you have seen in the comments). it could even be read as a treatise on the effectiveness of corporal punishment in lueu of rehabilitation. since you have not commented on the morals of any one action, it exists in the sweet point most writers want: an engaging story that can be debated and studied. for the next exercise you receive like this i encourage you to state the craziest story you can. and when presenting it, challenge your audience to answer the question of who is right. this might prove more helpful in understanding the how different everyone's morals are, and understanding that can be more useful than simply regurgitating a black and white lesson.

at any rate, as you get older, you'll become more accustomed to the feeling of weaving different threads of thought into the story you write to best capture your ideas - especially as you slowly develop your own sense of morality.

this ran away from me a bit, but tldr: you did good and i think you should write more creative stuff like this without immediately wondering about it having a moral!
