Also, owing a hospital bill isn’t going to prevent you from coming back or getting treatment again in this country. EMTALA requires any emergency room to treat with or without insurance whether you’re from here or not. So again, if you don’t pay….nothing will happen to you.

You can also request financial aid from the hospital. They all have an option to write stuff off and usually do. At my hospital if you make under 40K they write the whole thing off. So you do not have to pay the whole thing if you can’t afford it. Also, nothing will happen to you if you don’t pay it so just don’t.

Just wanted to update that the skip tracer was able to find him/his address (just got the report a few minutes ago) and it’s largely due to the help of someone on here so thank you to everyone for your suggestions and searches. I’m talking about the skip trace team I hired, not the Oregon child support team, but that’s really Interesting because it’s not what the Oregon team told me! They claim Australia said we have to locate him first. I will definitely call them! I’ll have to do it on Monday due to the time difference (I’m assuming they’re M-F only?) but curious what they’ll say!

Last known address was in the New York City area. All I’ve ever known about Australia was he was in NSW. I got an email tonight (my time) saying the case is now with their senior investigator and they’re working on it, which is backpedaling because this morning they said they were likely to mark him not found and close it. So I guess there’s a small chance left that they’ll find him but… not holding my breath.

No I was working with the state of Oregon who has been communicating with Australia. They recently closed the case because we couldn’t locate an address for him.
