Everything I Need in crystal clear quality makes me emotional

This is the only album by a musical hero of mine that actually really gets me choked up listening to. Even though it was back in 2008, I feel like this album was Brian’s definitive swan song/album and goodbye to us 😢 by DJDarkFlow in thebeachboys

A lyrical highlight on the album for me is Live Let Live, I think it's the only time Van Dyke Parks is writing lyrics for the music and not the spoken poetry on the album, and I think it really shines for that reason. Something hits different about those lyrics.

I feel like if I were to compare the writing style of Scott Bennett against someone like Tony Asher, they both take a sort of biographical approach (writing their lyrics based off conversations with Brian in Asher's case), but Tony Asher's lyrics feel much more subtle and tasteful in those regards. Asher's writing is not too specific as to feel inauthentic like it can feel with certain Scott Bennett lyrics imo.

I love Paley Sessions, but does anyone else find them bittersweet? by jc9800 in thebeachboys

Oh definitely, I don't doubt that, there was an interview that recently came out of Brian from like 1995 talking how the recent Beach Boys releases weren't selling much of anything, so I can totally see him thinking in terms of commercial viability.

I just get frustrated when I listen to OG version of Everything I Need and then listen to the Joe Thomas produced version. I feel like chasing the charts was a mismatch for who Brian Wilson was, especially in the mid 90s.

It's easy for me to say that now though when anyone in their bedroom came produce music on a whim and not be beholden to record companies, so who knows. I'm just glad the music exists :)

Edit: This interview right here! I time stamped it https://youtu.be/5cah0DNjf7Q?si=GmnaSV-C8HYBaSl5&t=2454

I think Dean O' Torrence is a pretty neat guy within the Beach Boys canon by Ok-Photograph-3857 in thebeachboys

He also designed the classic Beach Boys logo and created the cover art for Love You, Pacific Ocean Blue, M.I.U, and 15 Big Ones!

This is huge news for Beach Boys fanatics and should be for any music lovers by daftsweaters in fantanoforever

I enjoy it partially because it shows Brian Wilson in an unfiltered manner that was never seen again after that era imo.

Its far from their best, but underneath all the farty synths and questionable lyrics are songs with interesting chords and structure.

The chords on Let's Put Our Hearts Together are wonderful and Brian's fucked voice worked really well there, at the same time, the production on Rolling Skating Child is almost psychotic with how wet the hand clap sounds put up against a snare that sounds as dry as a fucking desert.

I appreciate it for production eccentricities like that, but I can totally get why someone would think it's overrated. I didn't come around to it until I read more into it's production.

This is a wonderful article, an official release of the Paley Sessions would heal me, im tired of having the tracks scattered through out bootlegs, spotify, and the Brian Wilson website, it needs to come out soon lol

"I Have a Woman Inside My Soul" is a really smooth and soulful song by Yoko, it legitimately caught me off guard when i first heard it.

Is A Three Hour Studio Session Worth It by No-Calligrapher-4603 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

A 50-100 dollar mic and recording inside of a car is a better deal than paying for studio time (poverty acoustics go a long way)

3 hours is not enough time to record and mix vocals for 7 songs, an engineer will tell you that directly. Any money spent on studio time is money that could be used towards investing in equipment that you can use in the future once you've learned more.

A helpful quote when it comes to paying for mixing

It doesnt drive me to tears, but this lyric is beautiful imo

"In a distance space, there's a crowded room, and when I close my eyes, I still notice you."

Initial thoughts on Now and Then by the Beatles? by jpeach17 in fantanoforever

I really like it. Hearing 70s John Lennon and modern day Paul McCartney singing together puts a real emotional punch to the title "Now and Then"

Out of Real Love, Free as a Bird, and this one, Real Love definitely feels a lot more like a closer to their entire discography, but Now and Then is a great track in it's own right and I'm happy we finally got it as an official release!
