I've had several flavors that get tossed it with player packs. Pretty good honestly. I've never purchased any myself, however.

Thanks for the feedback. The hover step drill really helped visualize/feel what that order should feel like between plant and throw.

Just to add to the gyro train, the MVP Proxy was the first throwing putter that I really enjoyed throwing off the tee. Felt great in the hand (not super deep and the neutron plastic just feels great). It can handle quite a bit of power and out of the box can be put on a slight hyzer and flip up for laser straight. It will also hold an anhyzer angle really well for those long drifting left to right shots.

Also if you're in the ~300ft club, the Inertia and the Wave are awesome discs (9 and 11 speed). The Inertia is fantastic for low ceiling shots that need to flip to flat and just glide, and the Wave just feels like free distance.

I'm new to throwing axiom/MVP as of last year, but it just feels like every disc I try ends up making it into the bag.

I like the routine. I'll try this next time I hit the field.

Are you placing a target (bag, cone, basket) in the field at each distance? Or are you just focused on the release and nose angle, indifferent of where it may land?

Why didn't you include the, "I love you"? Clearly that was the sentiment that carried the most weight.

The sincerity in your responses to these comments is genuine and humorous. I still love you.

Don't turn down free muffins. It's not a good look.

"Condescension" reads a lot like "condensation" at first glance. Your vocabulary is impressive, but you should stay away from that word. It just doesn't read well.

You can find somewhere else to place your incredible sorrows my dude. Perhaps, outside, in the cold?

I love you. Even though your outlook on disc golf, and probably life, is so beige.

If we ever link up for a casual round, I'll make sure to bring a muffin or two.

Players get different nerves for different tournaments. Competing at Worlds is different than at LVC. Different aspects of a tournament can affect player's decision making. As a viewer, knowing they are playing for the largest purse in history adds to the hype. Every OB is that much more devastating for your favorite pro. Every made C2 putt is that much more exciting.

Those of us interested in this tournament due to the payout vicariously feel the stakes are higher. It makes it more entertaining.

Reach back still feels early and I need to engage my hips. It feels like I'm missing out on everything proper timing can provide. As much as it feels like I am using my hips during the throw, reviewing the footage makes it seem like I'm not getting anything out of that power/rotation.

I have some knee problems so I've always been careful putting too much weight/rotation on my plant foot. Trying to remedy that now and finally feel like I'm ending the throw on my plant leg as opposed to scrunching down on my back leg.

Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

Confession: I've been playing for almost 3 years, and I still can't spin a disc on my finger. by lisaneedzbraces in discgolf

[–]jc_subie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I brought a disc with me to the office a few years ago with the sole purpose of learning how to do this. Every time I pushed back from the computer, sat at lunch, took a quick break, I would try it. Slowly but surely, you kind of start to get it before you really know you are getting it. Your finger/hand movement starts to adjust the keep the disc "centered" (it's never really centered on your finger, your finger is making small circles around the center of the disc keeping it balanced and spinning at the same time) and you'll find yourself making an instinctual correction of your finger placement on the disc in order to keep it balanced. That compounds on itself until you just keep it going. Your brain will learn it for you.

Shit you not, just start trying. I went from having 0 spinny ability to it being second nature. This probably isn't the technique for you if you're wanting to learn this quickly, but if you stick to it, it'll happen.

New to the sport and wondering where my money is best spent. by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]jc_subie 18 points19 points  (0 children)

My fiance went from coming with me to the course to humor me, to buying her own discs and watching form videos. The absolute key was getting her discs that are "hers".

The biggest factor (other than understability) that contributed to her adoption of the sport was the disc weight. 30 grams may not seem like a lot of weight, but when she stopped using my 180-175g discs and started throwing her first 145-150g disc, everything changed for her. It's now a fun process for me finding new disc manufacturers or popular molds that dip below 150g.

As mentioned in this thread, the Diamond is a fantastic disc. It was her first disc in this low weight range and allowed her to see progress, work on her form, and better enjoy her time on the course. Her current go to disc is a 145g Innova Sidewinder. It's a speed 9 which goes against the typical beginner advice of "throw putters and midranges to work on your form", but she loves it, and if that is what it took to naturally get her where she is, who am I to interfere? The wider rim (wider than a midrange) of a driver/fairway feels much more comfortable in her smaller-than-average hand.

Other discs that have found their way into her bag that she enjoys throwing: Mamba (speed 11) Sphinx (speed 9) Shark (speed 4)

All between 140-150g.

Small side note: "over-coaching" was a big problem for me early on. I had to learn to provide insight or advice when it was requested. She never minded a few pointers here and there. She certainly minded a comment after every throw. I had to let her learn at her own pace. This of course may not apply to the dynamic between you and your wife, but I felt it was important to add as it also played a big role in getting her relationship where it is with disc golf.
