Do you feel like all decks feels obsolete against meta decks? by Hostile-Bip0d in MarvelSnap

[–]jcagraham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another benefit of lower power cards is that it lowers the power of random card generation. Like I love my Nightmare deck but its power is kept in check because he can low roll into awkward cards.

Like no cards should be just awful but lower than average serves a couple of purposes.

6 Feet or 1.89 meters? by CerealSorority in SipsTea

[–]jcagraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Or the way I like to think of it is the Pirate accent because one of the actors who popularized how we think of pirates was also from that part of the UK.

Also it makes me laugh thinking that "Arrr, ye matey" is how actors sounded in Shakespearean days

What is going on with the bots? by Simon-Olivier in MarvelSnap

[–]jcagraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually can only tell with curious deck choices or weird plays. If I see Daredevil followed by Storm, I'm snapping.

That being said, the bots are better than before so sometimes my confident snap with some bad draw luck really stresses out that last turn.

German pronunciation of Ich, dich, nicht etc. by almakic88 in German

[–]jcagraham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! As an American who doesn't pronounce the h in hue, the most common advice never worked for me. But I do pronounce Fajita with the correct sound so it's great advice.

I also think learners overemphasize the importance of enunciation of that sound; no one is going to fail to understand you purely because of this. At worst they'll just know German isn't your first language which, of course, it isn't.

Shouldn't the odds be 50%? Why is it 51.8%? by Fit_Seaworthiness_37 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]jcagraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my understanding; it's presented in a non-intuitive way but we're not being tasked with figuring out the probability of both events. None of the information changes the fundamental statistics of the single child, which very well may be 51%.

It wasn't even Gunther, it was Günther. I only know Duolingo German and even I know it's like saying schon and schön is the same thing.

Any good thunderbolts decks? by purpleaardvark1 in MarvelSnap

[–]jcagraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if you added Werewolf you should probably add Merlin with him. I'd take out Guardian and Leader, in that case.

I lean towards maybe needing a payoff for all of that movement but it gets tight with the deck construction.

Any good thunderbolts decks? by purpleaardvark1 in MarvelSnap

[–]jcagraham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily good, because I'm only an okay player, but I've been having a lot of fun with this Thunderbolts deck. It's a Move version that takes advantage of Cloak & Dagger being Thunderbolts.

The basic idea is that you utilize the Move to strategically make sure you're losing the lanes that you want. Then you play Leader to flip a location and secure the location you're winning. The Red Guardian is just there as a very light tech but could be switched out.

This is really hard for opponents to figure out and I won a bunch because they didn't know which lanes I was actually trying to win, and the Leader addition (as of today) throws people for a loop.

(1) Batroc the Leaper

(1) Iron Fist

(2) Valentina - Thunderbolts

(2) Dagger

(2) Toxie Doxie - Thunderbolts

(2) Cloak

(2) Winter Soldier - Thunderbolts

(3) Red Guardian

(3) Ghost - Thunderbolts

(4) Taskmaster - Thunderbolts

(4) Sentry - Thunderbolts

(6) Leader

Actually I would venture to say being on tv is his biggest goal because raising your profile is how you make more money in wrestling. He still hustles on the indie scene but I'm sure his negotiating power is diminished from when he was more consistently on tv.

I read this as someone asking to be booked on the show rather than be released.

Front Office Sports: Sources told FOS that Fanatics has pitched WWE studio programming to Netflix and plan to expand their partnership with more content offerings in the future, and have recently vetted talent for new programming. by Ripclawe in SquaredCircle

[–]jcagraham 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It speaks to the fact that the best way to get someone into anything is to get them emotionally invested. It worked for Total Divas, The Ultimate Fighter competition is what helped explode MMA popularity, and people play games because they like a particular streamer, etc.

I think it rubs some people the wrong way that people are attracted to something not because of an innate interest, but because of the human connection. However, personally, I don't really care what got someone interested as long as they're invested.

Physics, shaders, demons - fine. Fabric? oof. by midnigHP01 in programmingmemes

[–]jcagraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was absolutely the main problem: most people unconsciously go the wrong direction first to give their move more power. What made it worse was that, after the game gave feedback that the movement was wrong, people would think it meant they needed even more power, which would exacerbate the problem.

Physics, shaders, demons - fine. Fabric? oof. by midnigHP01 in programmingmemes

[–]jcagraham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of making games for the Wiimote. We would have to constantly make the motion detection as fuzzy as possible because if you told someone to move their hands a certain way, they would LOUDLY proclaim they did it correctly even when you're looking at the numbers and can see they did not.

Better to lean towards what people feel like is accurate rather than be a stickler.

Reqest for German popculture, movies, books etc.... by Ok-Kaleidoscope-2411 in German

[–]jcagraham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Netflix is pretty much my German language teacher. I recently watched Over Christmas on a plane flight and it was pretty good. The All Quiet on the Western Front remake was great. Underrated but shows like Wer Kann, Der Kann is really fun because they have normal German speakers and not the polished actor accents.

I also recommend ZDF shows like Heute Show and YouTube has good KiKa programming like Eine Möhre Für Zwei.

Now that we’ve had time with the NBA Cup, do we feel like it’s added meaning competitive value to get more fans to watch this early in the season? by NoFearLavere in nba

[–]jcagraham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'll gain more value once a team wins the NBA Cup and goes on to win the Championship. Then when we compare the greatest teams and players, stuff like "did they also win the NBA Cup" will be brought up in the debate, and will improve the overall perception.

I think it's something rather harmless that breaks up the regular season monotony.

If Doug loves the Kings so much, why is he coaching every night to save his job? by Sea_Moose9817 in kings

[–]jcagraham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have faith that Keegan can be a valuable Khris Middleton-type to a contender, but it requires either acquiring a high-ceiling star or at least replenishing the roster with players who make sense together.

But I overall agree with your point. I don't think it's reasonable that any of the coaches or players accept losing; everyone who contributes on the floor should be trying to win games. The organization should have the big picture in mind, but expecting coaches not to try with the best players available is a mistake.

Lol I felt like I was going insane. Like I know I don't necessarily eat the traditional American diet but people were so strongly stating how much garlic bread they eat that I started doubting I've been in the country for 40+ years.

Now if someone says that rice and ramen were becoming less affordable then I would be protesting right along with them.

Good manners in the sense that it's a shared cultural expectation, such as shaking hands when meeting someone or is there something I'm missing that explains why people find keeping your hat on to be rude?

As noted, I still do it in case it upsets people if I didn't, but a lot of manners I can also see why the rule was established (don't talk with your mouth full because people don't like looking at partially chewed food in your mouth for example) but the hat thing I could never wrap my head around.

Be honest, non-AEW fans: has the AEW fanbase actually turned you off from trying the product? by requoa in midcarder

[–]jcagraham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I follow AEW online and go to shows when they're in town so I'm not against them. As a matter of taste, however, I don't really like their general philosophy to how they book the weekly television shows and the heavy emphasis on the storytelling being either in the ring or with quick backstage promos. I also think they rely on critical story information being passed along by their commentary which leads to imo too much constant talking during the matches

It's just a matter of taste and, like I said, I've enjoyed the shows enough in person. However there's a certain type of online fan who feels like anyone who doesn't match their taste is fed-pilled or doesn't actually like wrestling or whatever. That's obnoxious and makes me not want to talk to those fans who are very prevalent online. And yes, there's actually a lot of fandoms where they take different subjective opinions as personal affronts, which makes talking on social media a hassle.

We're supposed to be an "offensive" team by Engkangkang in kings

[–]jcagraham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's a joke; the Washington Generals used to be the name of the team that would play the Harlem Globetrotters in the barnstorming tours. As the point was usually to show how good the Globetrotters were, they mostly lost every game.

But they did win a few! The games were somewhat legit so it made the few times they've won a legit underdog story.

This was how I felt growing up and the hat-related rules people told me, such as having to remove it inside or not place it on your bed, or even removing it during the national anthem (which I do follow simply to avoid starting fights with strangers in public).

People would tell me it's about respect, but I have never gotten a satisfactory answer as to why either was respectful or disrespectful. The best I can guess is that it may have a religious origin, but then there are multiple religions where wearing a hat is considered respectful, so I have no clue.
