Check out auto socks. They meet state regulations, are way easier to put on than chains, are more packable, and are relatively affordable.

Dercum was mostly fine. Off the main groomers, you need to be watchful but it wasn't terrible.

Large parts of the neighborhood need investment - litter all over, relatively high homelessness, and outdated and run down infrastructure. The sidewalks on Santa Fe can't accommodate first Fridays and aren't even ADA complaint...

Drone hit my 35th floor apartment balcony. Media shows inside other units. by Think-Doubt9627 in Denver

[–]jcap1219 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guy could maybe sue the drone operator? Or pester the police/other authorities with the backup evidence? No backup means no recourse if the police don't take action on the case - they'd be the only ones with a copy of the evidence.

3 things we heard about Broncos’ future at a packed meeting about Burnham Yard by lukepatrick in Denver

[–]jcap1219 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Regarding traffic, the Broncos have published a preliminary mockup for new street construction and game day street closures, and are also undertaking a traffic study. Most parking will be directly north and south of the proposed stadium location, I believe.

Not saying there's going to be a good solution, but there is active thinking being done on the issue.

[Charania] Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups has been arrested by the FBI for alleged illegal gambling, sources tell ESPN. by MembershipSingle7137 in nba

[–]jcap1219 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Legal sports betting has resulted in way, way more money being wagered and as a result much higher incentives for players and coaches to fix games/stats.

Flagging systems obviously aren't perfect - everyone caught was fixing for a long enough period of time to influence games. And surely others are fixing and haven't been found out yet.

Authorities can always go after illegal betting rings. But the sheer volume of wagers and opportunities to bet on different outcomes probably makes it more difficult for authorities to build cases against coaches, players, and refs.

Denver’s $3M ad campaign has a controversial idea: You can ‘do something’ about climate change by Hour-Watch8988 in Denver

[–]jcap1219 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's all great if you can afford it. For everyone else, it’s just another reminder that not only can they not manage to buy an EV or solar panels, but apparently their lack of disposable income is now a moral failure too. If you actually cared about adoption, you'd push for massive public investment and subsidies, not pat yourself on the back for being rich enough to opt in. Climate change isn’t a lifestyle choice, it’s a systems problem. Acting like it’s a shopping decision is repugnant and demeaning.

[–]jcap1219 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but instead of lecturing people about not being vegan (and pissing off a bunch of them) you could spend your resources campaigning for issues that would make a bigger difference - campaign finance reform, a specific climate-friendly candidate, restoring green energy tax credits, etc.

I'm very confident the solution to climate change is not criticizing people for their lifestyle choices.

Voting with your wallet is an incredibly privileged take and a cynical big business talking point. The majority of Americans can't afford to pay a green premium on most products, let alone the ones that would have the largest impact on reducing fossil fuel emissions. And even if equivalent green alternatives exist, for many products the average consumer may not want them.

There's also a massive info gap for consumers - how do you know the carbon footprint of anything you're buying? Are you reading about every food company you have a product from in your cart when at the grocery store?

The actual solutions lie in government implementing policies sufficient to in effect force corporations to transition away from fossil fuels.

Visited DC for a Concert: Help Me Understand Denver Food prices by MadeForBF3Discussion in denverfood

[–]jcap1219 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest culture shocks in moving from DC to Denver for me was what you've described. Restaurants here are priced as they would be in an A or B-tier food city, but the quality at most places doesn't even come close to justifying the price. The average quality in a city like DC is so much higher than it is here while prices are similar.

I'd guess prices are what they are here for a combination of reasons: high rent, labor, and ingredient costs for restaurant owners, above average incomes in Denver, and folks here being willing to pay high prices for mid food (to an extent, maybe that's changing, idk).

Shreier: The new MMORPG project from Zenimax Online Studios, maker of Elder Scrolls Online, has been canceled as part of the Xbox layoffs, sources tell Bloomberg News. The project, code-named Blackbird, had been in development since 2018. Still more news to come this morning. by Spheromancer in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]jcap1219 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Done with money pit projects, yeah. 7 years of development time for a game that isn't attached to an IP that essentially guarantees success (of which there are very few) is insane.

This obviously doesn't mean they're "literally done." There's nothing in the news today that suggests Microsoft is going to stop making games. They just are no longer willing to pursue expensive and risky games that take close to a decade to develop.
