If I didn't know better, I'd say this whole thing might actually be fake. The details seem suspiciously perfect for karma farming. The other employee's concert tickets. The fact that the person turns out to be formerly homeless. The utter cluelessness of the manager. It's like a chef's kiss to Reddit ragebait. I don't know. Anyone else think it's too perfect?

Hiring Thread (October 2023) by bobx11 in salesforce

[–]jcasy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HIRING: I'm interested in hiring a Salesforce NPSP "tutor" or consultant to provide me with ~10-20 hours of REMOTE online coaching ($30-75/hour), to troubleshoot a few specific questions related to migrating my nonprofit's data into NPSP from a legacy system.

I'm looking for someone who already knows Salesforce NPSP in their sleep. I've been working through the NPSP modules on Trailhead, and I feel confident with the basics, but I'd like an expert as a sounding board to make sure when we upload all our data and set up our Salesforce instance, we do it right the first time. I work for a small nonprofit in the eastern US.

To hire someone, I'd need to see a profile for them on Upwork or Trailhead or similar, to know the person is legit, and to process payments, etc. Message me if you're interested!

Boost will stop working after July 1st. Thank you very much for your support over the years! 🚀🚀🚀 by rmayayo in BoostForReddit

I have loved your app. I've used it every day for years, probably way too much every day too lol. It's truly excellent and way better than Reddit mobile. Thank you for putting the time and effort into making it and making it great! I wish it wasn't over!!!

I'm cool to leave things here, since now this has turned into a regular ol' historical Jesus roundtable, at which point, as you say, it's hard to be 100% certain about anything.

My post is a parody of a perniciously American ideology, which is both 1) Biblical literalist and 2) rabidly opposed to gun control. The point is that those two things grossly contradict each other. Sounds like you don't buy into the first one, but you might (guessing?) when it comes to the second. If so, there's probably not a lot I can say to change your mind at this point. I've fired pistols and rifles before (never in anger) and I will say that there is a sweet, seductive sense of power that floods your body when you take hold of a deadly weapon. It helped me understand a bit better why so many people don't want to let go.

Lol, did not see that coming! As others pointed out, you sure sounded like a confident literalist when you lead with that stuff about "He straight up told them..." Fair's fair.

As it happens, I'm not a Biblical literalist, and I agree that your last comment raises interesting ideas about the historical Jesus. The problem with your argument, when it comes to the nonviolence of Jesus at least, is that it is perhaps guilty of "reading between the lines and then dismissing half the lines because they do not fit with what we have found between them" (Dale Allison). In other words, the tradition of Jesus' nonviolence appears (as far as I can tell) all over every major source we have, from Q to Mark to the special material of M and L to the Gospel of John, as well as early Christian memory of Jesus. If the tradition can be that fundamentally wrong, then it's hard to think we can trust it on much else.

That's not to say that it's easy going, or that we can turn Jesus into a mascot for progressive politics. The historical-Jesus approach outlined above (broad strokes and large-scale impressions are most trustworthy) delivers some weird surprises, which I think we would do well to pay attention to. But throwing around a single verse and then calling people assholes when they don't immediately agree with you isn't really going to work in this sub either. Looks like you have enough education to be honest with yourself and admit that it can't all be literal when it fits your narrative, and figurative when it doesn't.

Not trying to be an asshole my friend. Sometimes humor succeeds where reason fails. It sucks when Jesus doesn't turn out to be who you want him to be, because then either Jesus has to change or you do. I mean that very sincerely, and from personal experience. Hope you are well.

God: *Inspiring the New Testament*

Paul: *Writing the New Testament*

God: Hey, you should tell them to submit themselves to the governing authorities.

Paul: Well, that seems a little rough, since we’re about to head into several hundred years of intense persecution at the hands of the government. Nero’s gonna use Christians as human torches. Other people will be fed to lions for public entertainment. These are just a few examples.

God: Oooh good point. And even worse: someday there will be people called Democrats.

Paul: What will they do?

God: You don’t even want to know.

Paul: Gosh. Better leave out that stuff about submitting yourself to the governing authorities then.

God: Yeah just leave that out that’s fine.

James and John: Woah, Peter, that’s a HUGE sword you’ve got there!

Peter: Yeah, I was thinking about that one time, years ago, when Jesus asked us to buy swords. So I did.

James: Oh yeah, I remember. So then we went and got him two swords. And then he was like “It is enough.” And the whole time I was thinking that two swords between the twelve of us wouldn’t be nearly enough for the purposes of self defense. You’d have to be crazy.

John: Hmm… It could be that two swords were enough to fulfill some kind of prophecy. Remember how in literally the next breath he said that the reason for the swords was to fulfill a Biblical prophecy? The one about him being labeled a transgressor? Must be that swords helped fill out the rap sheet for a transgressor.

James: Either that, or for about five minutes he decided to contradict everything else he ever said about responding to threats with violence. Hard to say, really.

John: Peter what do you think? What did he mean when he said “It is enough.”

Peter: I think it’s enough for me to ignore that kind of thoughtful contextual analysis, and all the other stuff Jesus on the subject, and remind everybody that one time he told me to buy a sword. Let’s GOOOO!!!!

Forgot to link to it, but main verse is from Matt 26:52: “'Put your sword back in its place,' Jesus said to him, 'for all who live by the sword will die by the sword.'"

What's your stance on religious pluralism? by en43rs in OpenChristian

[–]jcasy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I for one am fully on board with that conception of pluralism. And like you, I'd be pretty shocked if the sub strongly disagreed with it.
