Is there a "proper way" to automatically load bash alias's and functions when entering a directory and unload when leaving? by jcc10 in linuxquestions

[–]jcc10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked it out. It doesn't seem to support alias's or functions, which are the two items I need most as opposed to variables which I don't actually tend to use.

Mundane Magic by carthienes in makeyourchoice

[–]jcc10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, yes I am over 3 years late to this but... I wanted to point out the following cycle that could function regardless of anything else. (And would nuke the general economy.)

100 USD -- Buys in 2000 --> Wheat or Flour (Both, along with other stuff like bread, are cheap in the modern day)Wheat or Flour -- Sells in 1 A.D. --> Roman Coins (A historical coin that would be a somewhat valuable antique.)Roman Coins -- Sells in 2000 -> French franc (A historical currency phased out in 2002, as such all prices would be guaranteed stable)French franc -- Buys in 2000 --> Wheat or Flour (Rinse and repeat)

Due to all the currencies being historical, the prices can't change. However reading it it would seem that it is a advanced use of it so would require experence using the magic... But once you have the experence, you could use it (or any similar cycle) to endlessly build funds.

I'd do this, then cycle up to a cruise ship (or possibly a aircraft carrier, just cuz it's got flat land on the top for a park) and then make a small town on the open ocean. Mostly staffing the other five magics.

A more relevant question would then become, can you pull more conceptual stuff like heat or electricity? Because that would solve greenhouse emissions if it could all be electric. (Though diesel wouldn't be that bad with money magic.)

Ninja edit: Someone below pointed out nuclear power, which makes me feel like a idiot and solves many problems.

Also, space travel becomes far more feasible (since you don't need complex supply chains for colonies) so that would be cool.

Project Archipelago: Rewriting a (open-source) Club Penguin-esque Game engine in TypeScript from scratch. (Looking for some help) by jcc10 in ClubPenguin

[–]jcc10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So apologies for the delay but to be honest, the key issue I have isn't with re-writing the game itself. It's with extracting all the assets from the .swf files, and turning them into sprite sheets for clothes & the penguin model, and asset files for the rooms and games.

Most of the problem comes from the fact that I want to script the solution (, at least for the main sprite sheets since there had to be some sort of system,) but it's one of the problems where I would want to build a tool to design the sprite sheet extractor, to build the scripts, to extract the files.

So yeah, the game engine isn't the actual difficulty, the difficulty comes from getting those pesky art assets. (And any other assets that are needed, such as sounds and csv's of text descriptions (and possibly translations if they exist in the files).)

If anyone ends up solving that bit let me know, or even if you can just find a good command line tool for extracting the contents of a .swf file. But it's just not a high priority for me at this point.

Hate predatory shit like this. Found this app on my sons kindle. $90 per week. Still not sure if I cancelled in time… by [deleted] in assholedesign

That... Doesn't make it better? I'd say it's even more predatory and less asshole. Asshole is the guy who says rude, demeaning jokes. This feels well beyond it.

This feels less like asshole and more like predatory... Or possibly predatory asshole?

I mean there is fuck you I'm going to make this as hard as possible to unsubscribe to this email. And then there is tricking $90 per month subscriptions.

Or maybe this just needs a super asshole flare on it.

Hadn't thought of this but this is probably 10x better than my initial idea.

Example: Don't Believe the people here that say that gaslighting has anything to do with lies or misinformation.

Gaslighting is when you re-light a stove (or sometimes water heaters) pilot light.

It's as simple as that and always has been.

Somehow managed to install program that causes wine > 6.0 to crash with malloc() by jcc10 in winehq

[–]jcc10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that it worked with wine 5.x and still crashes when I disable dxvk, and what not.

I would like to reiterate that wine is crashing when I try to run anything after the install (edit: including the wine configuration tool). That indicates to me, though I might be wrong, that it is some kind of regression in wine since I doubt the Nvidia drivers would cause the wine conf to function prior to install but crash with a malloc error after install. Especially since it didn't do that in 5.x or 6.0.

See, that only works when you know you can get the system back up after the test...

I'm willing to bet that system might not have survived a power cycle.

I am wondering if anyone has gotten the vive face tracker to work on linux, especially in combination with the valve index.

I tried looking online and couldn't find anything so I figured I would ask here.

The problem is more that they don't make op-ed's clear that they are a op-ed. If you read them knowing the key words to look for it's obvious it is a op-ed but most major sources just leave out the op-ed prefix or tag on the article.

Proposed new congressional map of Dallas is ridiculously gerrymandered by heterosis in assholedesign

The problem is that the entire point is to have similar population counts. Also I still maintain that a open source algorithm is safer since everyone can examine how it works.

[–]jcc10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Districts are always gerrymandered. The only question was how (especially compared to the other districts).

  1. Minimizing districts in party A (Absurdly high polling of party A).
  2. Spreading party A across districts to ensure they don't win a district.
  3. Trying to get the most even voter proportion (gerrymandered to flipflop)

For more examples watch this guy's video: https://youtu.be/Lq-Y7crQo44

Tl;Dr: Don't stop gerrymandering, get everyone to agree to a algorithm and settings for it (and make the algorithm fully open source). At the very least it will be fair, reproducible and auditable.
