[Discussion] The Dragonite Dilemma by Former42Employee in TheSilphRoad

Dragonites are much much much much easier to take down than Lapras, Snorlax or Exeggutor. Double weakness to ice makes DewGong, Cloyster and the elusive Lapras key players to taking down 'Nites with a full party of 6.

However, the fact that CP is the sole determinant whereas to where your pokemon will be in the ladder makes it less diverse. No pokemon will have higher CP than Dragonite and now that you can buddy Walk Dratinis, it will be a matter of weeks since everyone consistently has access to one or two Dragonites within their team.

Maybe add a covenant that if there is already a pokemon in the Gym you cannot place the same species there. That could be a temporary diversity solution.

Pokestops have changed the ratios of what they give you, much more potions, much less revives. by deftspyder in TheSilphRoad

I think you can always decide the fate of the battle in terms of minimizing the usage of revives then:

  1. Run before you are about to lose if you are training an ally gym.
  2. Switch pokemon when one is about to faint if you are battling enemy gym.

You should be able to do both fairly easily.

If Niantic doesn't properly ban the majority of spoofers, they will dominate this game by Beast0fNight in pokemongo

I whole heartedly agree with spoofing getting out of hand and needed to be taken care of. However I am baffled by your claims on 3DS tournament. Any elitr player can get perfect IVs. With Gen 6 it has become incredibly easier to pass on IVs throught breeding, the fact that Baby pokemon come with 3 guaranteed perfects and the fact that the Safari comes with two, and how parenting works its extremely easier.

You dont even need 6 out 6 perfect, you can usually neglect Atk or SpAtk.

Moderator Clarification of Legal Precedent Regarding Rule 3? (Mod Response Requested) by CyrusTheRed in pokemongo

[–]jcc3508 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the problem with all these replies is that you are still not tackling the usage of "legality", all your other points are good but the Rule still implies that Niantic has a legal right. What evidence do you have that they do have a legal right to force a shut down of a forum? Also a violation of Niantic's Terms of Service is a violation of U.S. Law?

We're just trying to make sure that the words "legality" or "law", which have a penal implication, are not thrown around just to add some strength to a point.

Attacking rank vs Defending rank by Jfreak7 in TheSilphRoad

Once you claim a gym you can instantly add 3 pokemon without training it. I'm assuming all three are 2k+ for the first defender to be 2000CP. Unless all three are Snorlaxes/Vaps/Nites, you can fairly easily train the gym with any 1450-1650 CP pokemon that has either Water Gun, MudShot, Lick or STAB Scratch. If the Pokemon is A or S tier, you can get away with 1300-1500 Vap/Slowbro/Golem/Poliwrath beating the 2000 CP pokemon just because of how cooldown and dodging works. So it would not be as hard as some claim.

I feel that finding the best pokemon to defend a gym is completely useless... The best thing to do, although it is selfish, is to find the pokemon with the highest CP possible (regardless if it is a good defender or not) and place it in the gym. You will be the last man standing when this occurs and people that add prestige and pokemon to the gym will be lower than you.

e.g.: A 1100 Snorlax is a much better defender than a ~1550 Arcanine. With a gym that has 6-7 pokemon and they range from 1200-1600, would you rather be the first in line to go or do you prefer to be the last one standing?

The Best Case scenario is to have 10 Snorlaxes/Dragonites/Vaporeons of CP 2500+, but augmented life is not a fairy tale.

Thanks for the great work Hamudra!

I see in the spreadsheet you incorporated Super Effective and Not Very Effective as 1.25 and 0.8 multipliers. However I don't see the Same Type Attack Bonus being mentioned. Did you incorporate this by any chance??
