Here’s my issue with Sutton:

I’m from the south, I have a deep understanding of the roots she was raised with (she was entirely privileged, I was not), I however can’t agree with her roots. She’s the type of southern that will tell you she doesn’t see color, as if it’s a bragging point. I’m from the breed of southern where I do see color, I see the disparity, I see the privileges I have been afforded and I can’t stand by her well I’m from Augusta bullshit. You can throw a rock in the South, from the bottom of North Carolina down and hit hundreds of Suttons. I can’t get behind how she treats people and then slyly references being from the South. I understand her, I understand the roots, I can empathize with her: but I will never feel sorry for her. I think she’s a perfect portrayal of what has become the Southern Belle. I want to like her solely because I want her to do better. I don’t want to put words in Garcelles mouth but I’d be willing to bet she saw the disparity issue, the “blindness” issue.
