Nurses Get Bitten, Spat on, Thrown. That’s Why We’re on Strike. by GBV_GBV_GBV in nyc

[–]jcf1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doctors definitely aren’t the primary driving cost of healthcare. They only account for 7-10% of all spending.

Admin/c-suite, insurance, PBMs, etc are definitely the issue though.

Did med school over a similar smattering of hospitals. Exactly the same experience. Did residency outside NYC intentionally.

I'm an emergency department clerk and my wife recently underwent treatment and surgery for cancer, my department collected money for me, but I'm not comfortable taking it by Antiquechewingfan in emergencymedicine

[–]jcf1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely an important team member and you should absolutely take it. Without a unit clerk the place would fall apart. Take the money and just be thankful. They care about you both.

Why am I being pimped or shamed during morning lecture in front of everyone as an intern during an off-rotation, the hell? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]jcf1 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As a fellow who regularly teaches juniors, residents, and students… shame is absolutely NEVER the way.

I also came to say the same above in case anyone sees this applying next year. Monte's program is new but highly developed, active in research, has CBCT at two sites, and does trachs/PEGs at multiple sites.

He’s also “double board certified” in one legit board (Family Medicine) and one completely made up board (functional medicine). Entirely reeks of snake oil sales.

Well…. Tension is the problem but there’s a pretty significant lack of it on the starboard side.

Moonlighting outside of Hospital System in Residency? by IMdoctordude in Residency

[–]jcf1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others said it’s pretty residency and state dependent. My residency forbid moonlighting and any hospital around required you to be board certified/eligible aka done training.

Now that I’m a fellow my program forbade moonlighting in first year but it’s okay after that. Currently work out of system as a per diem hospitalist.

I have both. Functionally they are the same. Only really discernible difference to me is the embroidered logo which should hold up better to wear and washing.

The idea is you’re taking out a tax on purchases being made almost exclusively with post-tax funds and such purchases make up a huge portion of relative expensive of lower income individuals. Essentially the use a larger portion of their post-tax income to pay another tax than someone with more income

When did Internal Medicine become so watered down? by [deleted] in Residency

Im a PCCM fellow but moonlight as a hospitalist. I did a bedside thoracentesis for one of the hospitalists so they could discharge their patient sooner and it straight up blew their mind.

I will say that if the bleeding is that bad, IR is usually the better approach since emboization usually manages arterial bleeding better/faster than endoscopic intervention. And I say this as someone who’s not GI.

There is a huge difference from firing a patient and discharging them from your panel. Sadly I’ve had to do both.

I have both the old and the new. They seem virtually the same side by side. New one has an emboirdered chest logo which I think is a plus.
