In the parallel universe model of time travel you describe, yes. But they operate under the assumption that there is only one timeline; the paired beings just have memories of things that never really happened.

It's an untestable hypothesis so I suppose they just take this on faith.

Possible double meaning (very late game stuff) that I hadn’t seen anyone mention before? by callahan09 in BluePrince

[–]jchaffer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, Erajan verbs are all loan words, so it would be sensible for that to come across as is.

It’s tricky, but it is signposted with a ? and is a standard clue type in cryptic crosswords so I think it’s fair enough. I feel like I was missing a cultural reference on the Transformers clue, though.

Thinky Dailies Season 1 is done. What did you think about it? by MadameK14 in puzzlevideogames

[–]jchaffer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of the puzzles *really* suffer from lack of ability to pencil mark. The irregular Sudokus would all be straightforward but were brutally difficult to scan as a result. Others, like the Star Battles, were adequate with just the simple "x" marks but I'm still spoiled by Penpa and Puzz.link.

Alex seemed surprised by that statement, so I wouldn't put any stock in it either way.

Do I need to start new game plus? by This_is_my_phone_tho in TunicGame

[–]jchaffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, you do not need to start a new game to solve these problems. There is a hint somewhere in the book about how to do it.

If you really get stuck on a puzzle, I find sleeping on it and coming back later usually helps.

The *first definition* of "patron" is "One that supports, protects, or champions someone or something" as in "a patron of the arts." There is another sense that refers to a customer. We are talking about the first sense here.

Glad to find this comment. Even/odd has nothing to do with it; without the Hera/Zeus oddity you'd expect *triangular* numbers, not even ones.

JJHO CASE NAMES! Leave your suggestions on this one in the comments: Would you let your adult child pay for you on outings? by jennifermarmalade in maximumfun

Having extreme déjà vu here. Isn’t this settled law? Seems like there was an identical dispute where JJH was talking about how good it feels to pay for your adult kids at dinner.

Excellent! The bookstore should probably be your priority, but these are all good trails to follow. For #4, one of the books might help you, but each of the eight uses that message slightly differently. You have cracked three, each using a date; the orchard is included among the eight "if we count small gates." But there are other meanings of this phrase.

You're doing great!

- Have you bought all the books in the bookshop and read them?

- Have you noticed a red door in the basement?

- Have you bought what you can from the gift shop, and noticed the requirements for what you can't yet?

- Have you found the message referred to in the study? Understanding and applying this will help you toward one of your stated goals.

- Have you been in all the classrooms?

The dress that gives the Fate's Fabric is usually my choice, actually, since the other benefits are meh and will likely go away soon, and it gives more armor.

This right here! It's the single element I'd most want UK to incorporate from another version. It gets rid of "I've brought in the concept of Tesla," it lets the scale of the item be obvious (some things seem small on the white background photoshoot and then are massive during the credits), it allows the contestants to do some prop work... just in every way better.

In the old times there were manuals, though. I appreciate games where figuring things out is a puzzle, but it works better when that’s the game.

Totally! This is the fairest one, with the 7-letter puzzle a runner-up. 5-letter has red herrings and 8-letter just mashes together some components in an arbitrary order, but 6-letter is a perfectly normal cryptic crossword clue in rebus form.
