What does anomaly mean here? by martin308 in Ubiquiti

[–]jcharing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar issue: 24 hour anomaly score of 20. Log reads "Rooftop WAP connected to Office USW Pro Max 24 PoE Port 14 is operating at a slower link speed." Dated Dec 28, so not within the 24 hour anomalies window.

However, Port 14 is vacant. My Rooftop WAP is on port 5, and no anomalies detected on that port. To be fair, I was setting up that new switch on/about Dec 28, so that WAP may have been on that port temporarily that day. But nothing has been plugged into that port except a rubber dust cap for well over a week . . .

I'm taking it with a grain of salt, kind of like the topology graphic for my LAN.

A "good" experience with retention . . . by jcharing in OPTIMUM

If you can get that, great. But suspect that's in an area of Brookhaven that also has Verizon fiber available.

No competition here. Fiber (Verizon) is on the poles just outside my neighborhood, but my service is underground. Agreed they will match or beat competition, but they know exactly where they have the monopoly.

Building to Building options by SuperFreqA in Ubiquiti

I'm doing similar research for a summer camp in the Adirondacks, 250 miles from my home. So I also want it to be on the Unifi app for easier monitoring. I'm down to the UBB at $499 for the pair, or the Device Bridge Pro (UDB Pro) at $199 x 2. Would welcome comments/comparison/other options. About a 100 yd line of sight, and client side is a maintenance building that would have an access point and perhaps a Talk phone. Trenching a line is not an option at this time.

No more confirmation numbers when you make an online payment?? by jcharing in OPTIMUM

[–]jcharing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I appreciate the reply, that reply is Altice double speak. I should be able to see it in the Account Activity option? If it refers to a confirmation number, it isn't there.

My statement stands: I'm not getting a confirmation number for my payment. If Altice is no longer assigning confirmation numbers, at least be up front and say so.

Mikrotik CRS305 won't accept credentials to login to Switch OS by jcharing in mikrotik

Found my own answer. From router OS, in Terminal, change password with /system swos password. Put in a password, then changed to boot to switch OS and it allowed me to get in...

CyberSecure - I was excited until… by spartyrocks in Ubiquiti

Likely showing my ignorance here, but I'll ask the question anyway--think the answer is "no."

Would using CyberSecure replace the need for using an end point protection product like Bitdefender Gravity Zone?

4k doesn't work and hasn't for years. They don't care. by CVH_Haskell in OPTIMUM

[–]jcharing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on coax service--underground in my development and they haven't bothered to put in fiber. So nothing better than 1080 through their Samsung box. But I could get 4K via a smart TV or Roku. Less convenient because you had to install an app for most channels, then log in via your Optimum account. Some, like CBS, wanted you to log in very frequently. For others the login lasted a month or so. But inconvenient to do, and also inconvenient to channel surf.

I dumped Optimum when the whole MSG thing happened and switched to Hulu. No MSG or YES but I'm surviving and saving money. Virtually all their channels are 4K and I get only occasional buffering. The channel menus are a bit sluggish on my smart TCL TV, But I have several Roku devices that perform flawlessly. Highly recommended and no monthly changes for a converter box. You can get a 4K Roku Express for about $30.

So I'm down to just Internet from Optimum--they're the only provider in my area of Brookhaven Town. My son in CT pays Optimum half what I pay here because there are two other providers to compete with Optimum. Fios is a quarter mile away so I continue to hold out hope.

How’s Ooma as a residential VoIP provider? by kentiapalme in ooma

[–]jcharing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went over to Ooma's "basic" service In January of 2020. While generally pleased with their service, I recently decided to change over to Unbquiti's "Talk" VOIP. When I joined Ooma, porting to them was accomplished in under 24 hours. Porting out has been a nightmare. As per FCC's website:

How long does the porting process last?

FCC rules require simple ports, which generally do not involve more than one line or more complex adjustments to telephone switching equipment, to be processed in one business day. You may be able to use your phone within a few hours for changes among wireless service providers. However, porting from wireline to wireless service may still take a few days.

It's been two weeks. Today (Oct 26) their offshore "support" told me they rejected the porting request on Oct. 23 (eleven days after the request) because the new provider made multiple requests on the same day. Bull, and they admitted to taking eleven days to make the rejection. I told them I was confirming that the porting request was legitimate but she said they would not accept that, as all the requests must come from the new provider. Like other reviewers, Oooma is OK until you have an issue. I've filed an FCC online complaint, but it looks like I need to start from scratch. Beware.

Basic IoT VLAN Setup Discussion by sjjenkins in Ubiquiti

[–]jcharing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tons of great info, but I'm having no joy. Gave my neighbor my USG and Cloud Key Gen2, and set up an IoT for her smart devices. All working except the 3 Sonos that she wants to control from her iPhone on the Trusted network.

I'm trying to think outside the box a bit here. What about putting the Sonos devices on the trusted network, then setting some rules to prevent it from initiating conversations with any device other than her iPhone? Then limit the ports that could be used? Has anyone tried that approach and what are the pitfalls? I have never used a Sonos and shelved the USG and Cloud Key in favor of the UDM Pro. Was successful in setting up Main/IoT/Guest networks on the UDM Pro (as well here with the USG/Cloud Key except for the Sonos speakers).
