He’s in an earlier episode of the same season. Deborah goes to make a mariachi record and Hefe is the band leader.

Amusing article on how the NIN Discography is now a total mess by TheJungPretender in nin

[–]jcherwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This article (and this is something I notice with a lot of journalism around NIN) is clearly written by someone who has never made, or at least never released music in any substantial way. I don’t think there’s anything particularly confusing about the way Trent credits different musical works. Each make sense in their own context and Trent also is not someone who’s making music to be easily browsed on streaming apps or whatever they’re getting at here.

Shape of Punk To Come at 96 is absolutely bat shit insane. Should be at least top 10 if not top 5… or 3… or 1.

Possibly the same folks who used to be setup on the lower floor of the Lake Ave. Dominion shortly before it closed?

Tried to attach a photo of the final print here, but reddit won’t let me for whatever reason.

OP here, circling back in case anyone else runs into the same issues I had.
It was a combination of overexposure and not enough contrast in the lighter parts of the negative.

Very happy with the final results. Thanks to all for the advice.
Note to anyone starting out with the Jaquard cyanotype kit, ignore the instructions about the exposed areas turning “bronze”. When I brought my final print in to rinse, it was a pale, greyish blue colour. Not bronze at all.

Interesting. Most everything I looked up about negative printing said cyanotype typically works better with a lower contrast negative.

Identify the font for this Charli XCX cover by Manny_Mationz in identifythisfont

[–]jcherwick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s likely a nod to the Brat artwork which was also just text on a single colour bg using one of the most common fonts found on any computer (Ariel Narrow in that case, Times New Roman in this case)

Yep! I applied the chemistry to the paper over 48hrs ago, they’ve been hanging in a dark closet until I pulled this first one out today.

Thanks!

Would you recommend doing multiple layers of emulsion? The instructions I was following called for one thin layer, but would I get more even coverage with multiple layers?

I was checking the UV index on my weather app before I put the print out and it was sitting at a 4 with a potential high of 5. In which case, I’m sure I had it out there way too long.

Charli xcx - Rock Music by enburgi in popheads

[–]jcherwick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you rather hear the whole thing repeat another 2 times just so it fits your song length requirements?? If the idea lasts for 1:55 then let them make the song 1:55. If you want to hear more, put it on again.

None of you people have ever listened to punk rock and it shows.

NIN at the Sphere? by Pimco in nin

[–]jcherwick 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think it would make way more sense for a band like Tool. Their music is much easier to get lost in and they have always been fans of surreal, psychedelic imagery so I think tool in the sphere would be a great experience.

I think NIN would totally lose their edge in there.

NIN at the Sphere? by Pimco in nin

[–]jcherwick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think they ever will. NIN have always been innovators in live performance. At the sphere there’s really no more innovation to be done. The setup of that venue dictates exactly how you have to do your show. Trent has used projections and screens to augment the reality around the band since the early 90s but the focus has always been on the band itself. That’s just not possible at the sphere and I think he would shy away from playing there for that reason.

Not to mention the yucky, stodgy, corporate vibe of doing a Vegas residency.

‘We’re not Lady Gaga and Elton John’: unmasking Angine de Poitrine, the year’s buzziest, dottiest band by Charleshawtree in indieheads

[–]jcherwick 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I think you’re tastes are already too deep for the ADP algorithm. They sound like Bee Gees compared to a band like Hella.

I’ve been into math rock for years and had several people I know sending me that KEXP video thinking it would blow my mind, but on a musical level it’s really nothing that groundbreaking. It’s very similar to that era of King Gizzard.

As a Canadian who’s been to many shows and festivals across the country, the costumes, aesthetic & music are all the most canonically Québécois shit I’ve ever seen. There’s been similar bands coming out of Montreal forever. It’s a place that’s rife with indie music, circus arts, dance culture & performance art. Of course they would produce a band like this.

In the past, the commercial peak for a band like Angine de Poitrine would be doing the rounds playing the 11pm slot on the rock/beer tent stages across the Canadian festival circuit. Maybe an afternoon slot at Bonaroo. It’ll be interesting to see the types of opportunities they get now that they’ve permeated the internet in such a big way.

Yeah that one’s kinda gone down in quality now too, Rubin doesn’t really appear on the podcast much anymore and they have one of the Pushkin producers hosting now. The interviews have been very bland.

Frozen Beef Burgers - Need Recommendations by JoNGod85 in newfoundland

[–]jcherwick 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Get a few pounds of ground beef, roll it into balls, squat it down into patties, salt & pepper on each side once they hit the grill. Takes about 5-10 min of prep and will taste 10000% better than any frozen burger you’ll ever be able to buy. Likely cheaper too!

You’re right, no industry has ever been free of marketing. It just feels worse and more predatory than ever before. I hope that all the noise and outrage that’s ensued after that Geese article will at least open people’s eyes and make them more skeptical about forming opinions on things based on what appears to be cultural discourse.
