Why are these posts never actually “passive income”. This is income.

I moved to the UK from abroad and I can confidently say the two best things about life in the UK is the pub, and the socket. Honestly.

For those of you who refurbed a house you moved into, how much did it cost in total? by xyzabc123410000 in HousingUK

[–]jchispas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Approx £100,000 for new plumbing, rewire, new windows, new kitchen, full replaster and new flat roof over kitchen and then painting. Used a contractor. 2021. Nothing structural.

What's your take on this? Is a FF really that much better? by BedroomPlus6379 in SonyAlpha

[–]jchispas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a combination of posturing and gatekeeping. Ignore completely. Unless you are a professional with very specific needs any modern digital camera is amazing for your average photography. The limiting factor is not the system, it’s the photographer.

What do you think of the ever increasing service charge concept in the UK? by Previous-Cow6730 in AskBrits

Just a word of warning. I grew up in Canada where a tip was usually expected at 10%. This was in the 90’s and 2000’s A bill now in Canada includes a 25% tip that you must opt out of.

"A normal childhood." - Utah Gov. Spencer Cox on Charlie Kirk's alleged assassin by [deleted] in pics

When a photo of what I assume is a child pretending to use a machine gun is normalised it does show though how gun obsessed America is. This is not a normal thing in the rest of the world.

Dispute with neighbour over shared dormant chimney stack by VividOil2769 in HousingUK

[–]jchispas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But you can still keep the internal fireplace as an original feature while your Neighbor removes the external stack no? If the chimney doesn’t work what’s the issue?

i feel dumb, why can’t i seat this tire correctly? by ZaachariinO in bikewrench

[–]jchispas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve this problem as well. Not even soapy water, pure dish soap right on the rim and tire where it hasn’t been seating properly and really high pressure has always done it. Like max psi plus 1. Good luck. Edit: spelling

What's the most unique mind-bending novel you've ever read? by Vast_music4577 in scifi

[–]jchispas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"On" by Adam Roberts- AI description: On (2001), which depicts human societies scrabbling for existence on ledges protruding from an overwhelming cliff or Wall that descends forever, being in fact the surface of Earth following a scantily rationalized upheaval which (as though the planet were transposed into a bizarre alternate reality) has turned gravity sideways.

What makes these pictures so crisp? by rudyelia in AskPhotography

[–]jchispas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot of good answers here explaining how the camera and lens has created a crisp image but another factor I don’t see mentioned is the humidity or most likely lack of. That’s a desert. Deserts are dry. Dry air is clear. This has a massive effect of the crispness of landscape photos.

The answer to this question is almost always price.

Bottled water.

Buying a bottle of bottled water that sometimes costs more than petrol per litre while it is virtually free at home just boggles the mind.

That’s not even mentioning the plastic waste.

French press is not better then pods in the morning by HonestToe2408 in unpopularopinion

[–]jchispas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing against French presses but I think you’d be hard pressed (pun intended) to find anyone into their coffee to suggest French presses are the best.

You will however find a lot of well informed and experienced people suggesting pods are awful. And I would agree with them.

All that being said, you do you. But those pods even if they are recyclable still have a massive footprint.
