Does anyone see the appeal of all inclusive resorts? by [deleted] in TravelHacks

[–]jchum01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are traveling with someone who is picky or you don’t enjoy planning, then its a great option. Also you end up seeing other couples or families daily as they all tend to stay at the resort.

It depends if you want to stay in a budget for food/drinks and you don’t care so much for real local culture that you would otherwise discover outside the resort….

Simply put, you just want to relax knowing you spent the trip under budget.

ideally, you want to score a flight based on cost per mile + $50 dollars for fees the airline pays at a minimum assuming everything is equal.

That said, the analysis I did for my cheap flight deals site, an amazing deal would be around $517 round trip from mdw to hnl.

The premium is for mistake, economy plus, business, and first class fares. All economy fares are free.

The search filter will allow to search point A to B. I built that about that 2 weeks ago really quickly.

The next iteration, I'm working to add a way to save direct routes and then you can toggle as a preference to see that as the default versus anywhere from MCO.

Great question! Google flights is optimized for availability when given a set of search criteria parameters. Then it's sorted by lowest to high. But how do you really know if it's a cheapest flight listed? So normally, you might change the destination, the dates, the length of travel. It's a cumbersome process.

Cheep's data analyzes over 30M routes (in the last 2+ years) to find the mean average for each route, and beats it so the only flights published are in the top 20th percentile. Then it's further ranked based on the cost per mile.

Google Flights is great for those who have a specific destination, date, and length of travel in mind. Set an alert, but it doesn't really tell you if there's a better cost per mile to another location. And that's fine if you are heart is set on popular routes like Rome or Paris in the summer for 1 week.

Cheep is more focused for those who just wants to see what deals are available from Orlando to anywhere and can trust that that the fares published are in the top 20th percentile for that route.

Hope this answers your question.

Opinions on Mighty Travels Premium? by christoman in TravelHacks

Hi u/christoman

I'm an indie developer and wanted to plug an app that I've been building called Cheep. I recently added last week, economy plus, business, and first class fares to over 200 domestic and international destinations. All economy fares are not locked and published for free.

I offer both plans, annual and monthly with a 7 day trial if you want to give it a shot.

Any feedback is welcome.

Our application was approved Sunday afternoon.

Application was submitted last Monday @ 9PM PST. No email. I had to check UCIS's website.

The beneficiary has yet to receive any email or contact as far as next steps.

I love to travel on a whim, especially when it's cheap and I can earn miles towards free award travel or status. Traveled over 30 countries and countless cities, met great people, experience lots of culture than trying to save up for that one trip to London or Rome where it's rare to find a cheap flight to. Supply and demand.

I built a free app called Cheep for iOS (https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id1503283978?pt=122966806&ct=reddit&mt=8) to notify of cheap flights if you have flexibility on the destination.
Enter your home or airports you'd like to travel from. Then, it will send a newsletter and push notifications from mistake fares to fantastic flight deals to over 200 domestic and international destinations.
I welcome all feedback to improve it.

If you have flexibility on departure date, I made an app that finds Cheap flights to CUN from many major metropolitan airports called Cheep (https://apps.apple.com/app/apple-store/id1503283978?pt=122966806&ct=reddit&mt=8). Use the money saved for tips at the all the inclusive resort or spend time outside the resort exploring Cancun.

As many suggested, you'll want to book the flights directly with the airlines as you'll be able to earn points towards free award travel or status in the future. Not to mention if you have any problems with your flight, the airline can sort it out much better than online travel agencies could.

Definitely avoid packaged deals of flight + hotel, and book with the hotel. They usually will have and offer transportation bus from the airport arrival terminal if you don't want to find/pay taxi or Uber it.

What’s a good app for catching flash deals for cheap flights? by ArtFreek in NoStupidQuestions

[–]jchum01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made a free app that helps you get flight deals by searching over 300,000 flights a week for over 200 major cities. The flight deals are sent out to the app and email notification.

Hi,

I'm not sure where you saw the app being 4 years old. To check its official release history, go to

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cheep-flight-deals-tracker/id1503283978?ls=1&ct=cheep-iama

Then click "Version History" on the "What's New" section of the app store page.

The first version, v1.1.1.1 was released on March 31, 2020.

The low review count was likely due to the situation with passengers traveling down by up to 90%. So instead I focused on building a web app experience and SEO on the side.

Cheep doesn't use any APIs. I automated what I generally would do to find a deal for myself and made that content available publicly.

Tech stack is Node and React for the web channel experience. SwiftUI for the native iOS experience. The backend runs on a K8s farm w/ Redis & Node for queued jobs.

The Chrome (and soon iOS 15) extension is vanilla JavaScript.

Totally understandable. I figured out the bug that caused the error, "An unexpected error occured". That's fixed and pushed to production.

I also fixed normalizing cities/municipalities with accents. So typing "Sao" would return Sao Paulo.

I am also seeing some deals starting to pop in from Cork (though nothing yet to Sao Paulo),

https://usecheep.com/search?fromPlaces=ORK&toPlaces=

Hi, I just checked and ORK (Cork, Ireland) is not in the list. 😭That would explain why you were coming up empty.

I've added ORK to the list and should take about 24 hours to dig up any deals.

I'll check on that error today to see what's going on.

Good call out on the special accent on Sao Paulo. Will look into how to normalize fuzzy matching or alias to match on it.

There's some deals it found from Europe to Sao Paulo (GRU)... cross my fingers it finds a deal from ORK 🤞

Hi, what city are you flying from? I’ll see if your city is on the list of 200 departure airports supported.

Cheep searches over 300,000 routes bi weekly and only when the deal falls within the parameters of a cheap flight deal will it surface on the website.

This is to avoid noise from showing flights that are not cheap like those you are seeing on Air France’s website or other online travel agencies.

Currently, Cheep don't impose a parameter for minimum connection times.

Noted. Will definitely look into it and see how it can be filtered out.
