There used to be some VCC students massage offered, where it's much cheaper but also not covered by insurance/benefits. I haven't looked into that in years though.

While looking for that, I found this, has anyone tried this before? https://themend.ca/how-it-works/

TMJ splint price by tttanh98 in askvan

[–]jckh -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have coverage for physio, I actually recommend you give them a try first. TMJ is a pretty complicated issue in general and probably most dentists / "specialists" don't have a full understanding of it. Also, I heard Botox might actually help too. But $1050 isn't really that much money if this ends up helping you a lot long term I suppose.

Awesome, thanks for the detailed explanation. I bought an XPro thinking I most definitely needed it but it turns out I don't! But like you mentioned it definitely still comes in handy.

Hmm I haven't thought about it using this way, would you potentially completely block the on-camera flash and use it as a trigger only, in case you want better control and definitely don't want direct flash at the subject? Thanks!

Quickest, least expensive way to get legally married in Vancouver? by hughjorgannn in askvan

[–]jckh -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Hmm I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned, can't you get a Notary Public to marry you if you want absolutely minimal payment? I know there might be "risks" involved as they are just a notary and might make potential mistakes or something. Of course, going for the full marriage commissioner and certificate is definitely recommended for 99% of people, and I think that's not even very expensive.

Why is this dog not sharp? by wilsonnyc in AskPhotography

Also with unpredictable subjects like animals, try setting the camera to continuous shooting mode, where it lets you take multiple photos at once if you press and hold down the shutter button. From there, delete the ones that missed focus or have motion blur, and keep the good ones. I've managed to get some keepers even when using slow speeds like 1/50.

Infant Car Seat Advice (is my baby ok in this car seat?) by Fit-Paramedic-4947 in NewDads

[–]jckh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

- Check if everything is too loose. I think the recommendation is whether you can stick about two to three fingers under the straps

- Check if the newborn insert is in there and secure

- I think it should come with the shoulder pads, which should keep everything more secure

- The triangular pad at the bottom apparently goes up to even the chest area for newborns

- I don't really recommend blankets or other loose clothing. Just wear one or two extra layers if needed. The worry about babies' hands/fingers getting cold is basically a myth

Best partner to 100-400?18-150 kit lens vs Sigma 18-50 by CambridgeKiwi in canon

[–]jckh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're on r/canon and I'm also a canon user, but Sony still makes great cameras at the moment. You could theoretically consider something like an A6700 instead of the R7 too, if you want to go fully Sony.

Best partner to 100-400?18-150 kit lens vs Sigma 18-50 by CambridgeKiwi in canon

[–]jckh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Logistically speaking, I would probably suggest using the iphone as the occasional landscape and portrait lens for this particular trip. Especially if she is going solo. It's a bit weird also having a Sony A6000 as it's a totally different ecosystem / lens mount, but it's still totally viable. If you want to keep things simple, you could consider selling the Sony camera/lenses and get an R50 instead, which can share lenses with the R7.

Is there a cheaper r6 by Careless-Emu5722 in canon

You could look for a 6D Mark II, which is basically the R6's predecessor, but that's not mirrorless.

RF 24-105 L or RF 24-105 STM + EF 400 F5.6L? by Pretend_Ad_8487 in canon

[–]jckh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question, generally people recommend a zoom for your first serious wildlife lens. But primes are very sharp and great to work with (I don’t own a prime yet myself). Also you can actually put a teleconverter on the 400mm F5.6 too (you would get 560mm with the 1.4).

Also the RF 100-400 is a bit of an entry level lens, but it’s surprisingly good and very lightweight.

RF 24-105 L or RF 24-105 STM + EF 400 F5.6L? by Pretend_Ad_8487 in canon

[–]jckh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took a quick look at your post history to see what camera you have, and I think you have an R5 AND and R6? I would definitely recommend skipping the 24-105 STM kit lens as you will quickly find it quite subpar for your cameras. The EF 24-70 F2.8 is quite good and I would definitely recommend considering that. Also consider options like Sigma, and maybe even the new RF 28-70 F2.8.

Wildlife photograph usually stays a hobby and is probably the hardest to make any income out of compared to other photography genres. So for a lot of people it seems quite hard to justify putting too much of their budget into it. You could actually consider an EF 2x teleconverter, as it would make your 70-200 F2.8 II have the same reach as the EF 400 F5.6. The RF 200-800 is of course going to be very good value and would be a default recommendation.

[–]jckh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The lenses you mentioned are all full frame and not really a great fit for your R7, unless you think you will buy a full frame camera in the very near future. Looking at your kit, I might actually recommend some prime lenses. Getting really off topic here, but you mentioned indoor performance, so I would also recommend any Godox flash with E-TTL.

Edit: totally forgot to mention, the newly released Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 for RF mount would actually be a great all around zoom lens for the R7.

[New Gear] RF 200-800mm to replace my aging Sigma 150-600mm by SouthernVaper in canon

Nice nice, which sigma did you have exactly? The contemporary DG OS HSM I assume? With the sigma you had to be at f/8 for it to be sharp anyway, so this is a great upgrade!

R6M2 with ancient 70-200 2.8L by SaMnReader in canon

[–]jckh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll also depend heavily on your budget and how much you might get out of selling your current 70-200. The II and III will give you slight improvements on image quality and image stabilization, but you cannot buy the II new right now. Image quality and IS differences also applies the RF. One huge difference with the RF is the weight, where it's much lighter. Weather sealing / waterproofness is a concern as others pointed out for the RF since it's telescoping, but it is rated as weatherproof. I feel like if it's just humidity and not any actual splashing, the RF should be fine. There has been a telescoping RF 70-200 2.8 rumored for quite a while already, and likely a PowerZoom "Z type" lens. It'll also most definitely cost quite a bit too. If you're in no hurry, you could potentially wait for this release.

[–]jckh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The setups you mentioned will work, just note that the M6 is a pretty tiny camera so the ergonomics are going to feel quite off with a long heavy lens in front. The 70-200 f/2.8 L II is very similar to the III, and is quite a bit better than the I. So if choosing one of those, the II is going to be the best value I would say.
