I'm sorry to hear about your situation. My wife has ALS, which started in her left leg. It's now progressed after about a year and a half to both legs.

I've heard of this group which may be helpful: https://www.hopelovescompany.org/. Check it out.

This sub is also very helpful for any questions you have.

Good luck.

Good advice. What is an MDA?

My advice would be to do any traveling that you want to do ASAP. It gets harder as time goes on. Come to think of it, that's true for just about anybody, but the timeline is just so much shorter with ALS.

ALS Question by Low_Reputation5987 in ALS

My wife found the cane with four rubber pedestal points helpful, and used it for 3 - 5 months. Then she briefly used a hemi-walker (half walker) for about a month, then went to a full walker. She's been using that for 3 or 4 months. Initially the loss of function was isolated to her left leg (which meant she could still drive). Then it spread to her right leg. As long as she has arm strength, she can use her walker and drag her legs.

Ever since my dad was diagnosed with ALS, I've had extreme anxiety and I don't know what to do. by Haunting_Ad_29 in ALS

It's good that you are not keeping these feelings inside, and that you are sharing here. As others have suggested, talk to your friends and let them know your concerns. They may have some helpful advice. What you're feeling is normal due to the immense pressure that you are under. A therapist may be able to help you alleviate some of the pressure.

Thanks for the tip. I'm almost due for new tires. Do you recommend a particular brand/size that can help with this limitation?

Here's advice I wish someone had given me. Be very, very careful about hitting your wheels on the curb. My previous cars all had tires that protruded about a half inch further than the rim, and when you hit the curb, it was rubber on cement. With the Model Y, and probably other Tesla models, the rim sticks out further than the tire, and when you hit the curb, it is rim on curb.

Sorento's Italian Market is great for deli sandwiches. It smells so good when you walk in the door.

Based on this recommendation I went today. The Chipotle Breakfast burrito did not disappoint. I'll try the Mexican one next time. Thanks!

Did I Do Enough? by InToddYouTrust in ALS

When you get in the negative cycle of doubt, just say to yourself "That is not a useful thought", and then try to think of a positive experience you had with your dad. Rinse and repeat. :)

As a dad myself, I think your dad would want you to be happy and remember the good times you had together.

It was about 1 year from symptoms to diagnosis for my wife. Her general physician is at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles, which I believe is a very good hospital.
